Priceline uses the same star rating on the published price and the name your own price options of the website. However those star ratings mean different things (i.e. the same star rating can be given to two completely different categories of hotels). This is akin to a 'bait and switch' marketing
ploy. After making the reservation and obtaining a hotel from a much lower category than I expected, I did review the website in great detail and was able to find Priceline's explanation that they undertake this marketing ploy however the explanation is definitely is not made noticeable to the consumer.  If Priceline is willing to undertake such an obviously deceptive marketing practice I have to assume that they are equally untrustworthy in their other business dealings.  I am very dissatisfied with the entire priceline experience.
