I was just this morning contacted by a PFS rep who told me the company was staffing up a new office and hiring "upper management" individuals and "executives" for this great opportunity. He said I was "referred" to him by some very reputable source, but darned if he couldn't tell me who (or what) referred me, but if it "came across his desk" I could be certain it was a pretty high-level reference. He could however "look it up" and tell me the referral source if I really wanted to know.

Funny, because when I answered the phone he asked for me by my formal first name rather than the nickname everyone I know calls me, which is just a variation of my real name. I do, however use my full name on monster.com and such internet resume sites, which is where I suppose he got my information. Also, my caller ID showed his name and home phone number, which is puzzling because why would he be calling me from home rather than this great new office they had?

Anyway when I pressed him for information on the nature of the business and salary, he basically told me it was $50,000 part-time and "six figures" full-time (yeah, right!). Six figures, like six zero's: 000,000? The nature of the business involved helping people "get out debt." He also gave the line about the "biggest company in the world" i.e. CitiGroup "you've heard of CitiGroup, right?" "Sort of" I told him.

The bit of info about CitiGroup and getting people out of debt rang a bell in my head. About two years ago a fellow approached me in the Safeway battery aisle with this "expensive, aren't they?" line and proceeded to engage me in a conversation about a vague career opportunity involving CitiGroup and getting people out of debt.

He kept calling my work number, but thanks to Caller ID I never answered the phone or returned his calls. I simply figured anyone who recruits contacts in grocery store aisles has to smell of scam.

Back to the guy who called me this morning. I agreed to show up for the informational meeting next week and to call him if I can't make it, neither of which I'll bother to do, thanks to the Rip-off Report I don't need to waste my time or money.

So, Richard K., if you're reading this, I'm not showing up to your meeting, so feel free to never, ever call me again...

I'd like to see evidence ..seems like it's brainwashing

AUTHOR: Jessie - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, December 03, 2002

I've been to these meetings myself, and they seem to good to be true. One of my siblings is working for this company, and it seems like it's brainwashing, plain and simple. I hear comments that say it's a wonderful company. Is it because they get people out of debt? I've got to admit that the FNA is a real eye opener for a lot of people. For some people, it's not because they already know how their finances work.

WhatI want to see is evidence when it comes to the life insurance pay outs. The theory behind the insurance seems sound. But does the customer get the money when a death happens? You hear wonderful accounts from the higher ups in the meetings, but that's all they are, if there isn't any documents proving that.

The company has great idealistic goals, but there's something there that just doesn't seem right. Like the saying goes, "If it's too good to be true, then it probably is". It seems to me that they play on people's dreams and goals to get them to sign up, and put up the money to work for this company. If the company's got so much money, because it's part of Citicorp, why does the new employee have to pay? Usually when you get hired, the company trains you and pays you.

I'm currently in the process of doing more investigative research on both sides of the story. I don't want my loved ones to loose their hard earned money.
