I just bought a car 9 days ago but I have been using Progressive Insurance for over a year. I am 48 years old and have never filed an insurance claim in my life but have been paying auto insurance for over 30 years. Yesterday while my car was parked around the corner from my house, it and two other cars were hit by a drunk driver. The police came, wrote up the report, arrested the impaired driver, and got everyone's insurance information. I went to the police station to make a statement and went home to report the accident to Progressive Insurance. This was all on a Saturday. I made t he initial claim and asked about the rental car. I was informed that I could call in the morning on Sunday after 930 to have someone get the rental car for me. I did this just a little while ago and was lied to right off of the bat by the agent who claimed that it was Sunday and Hertz is not open to rent a car from. What does she think, we are stupid? You can rent a car from Hertz 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. I pointed this out to her and she then said that she needed more information about the claim before being able to rent a car. I provided the name of the dealer I bought the car from, gave more detail about the damage to my vehicle and after I finished she said it sounds like the car would have to be totaled which is a bunch of B.S. Nothing I said would have allowed her to come to that conclusion. She also said that since I bought the car within the last 10 days that they would need to invesigate the possibility of fraud for the claim. What? The police report will state what occurred and it is not like I arranged to have a driver hit my vehicle. The driver who was arrested for DUI also has Progressive Insurance so I thought that this would make the process go more smoothly. I was informed that a local "investigator" would be following up but they are not working today (of course) but my problem is I need my rental vehicle to get to work on Monday since that request has already been denied I will lose out on income. This is just the initial impression I have gotten from Progressive but I fully intend to follow up with detailed reports as this process moves along. My main complaint here is denying me my rental car right away which is supposed to be covered in my policy. I do have a question if anyone has experiencew with this. Should I contact a lawyer about this now?
