I had purchased a small pendant through Proxibid's auction from a company called Bunach Auctioneering that was advertised as being 14k gold. When I received the pendant, I was very dismayed to find that it was cheap gold colored plastic, not even gold plated.

Thinking that Proxibid would stand behind what they advertised, I called them and spoke to a Tom Clark. He basically said too bad, you bought it, you are stuck with it. I could not believe they would not stand behind what they advertised. Numerous emails went back and forth between Proxibid and myself and I even wrote a letter to the President of Proxibid and never heard back from him.

I contacted my bank and they said to send the pendant back, certified mail and they would reverse the charges off my credit card. I did this and charges were reversed.

I thought all was over, boy was I wrong. I started getting emails from Tom Clark stating that if I did not pay for the pendant plus penalties they were going to file with a collection agency.

Here is an email from Tom Clark:

I strongly recommend that you make payment arrangements for the full amount plus penalties ASAP. Delaying payment can impact your credit histories for years moving forward.

Best,
Tom Clark

I sent emails and letters back and eventually called Tom Clark. He was very sarcastic and rude and laughed and me and said they would ruin my credit if I did not pay for the pendant along with the penalties. I told him I was not going to pay for a cheap piece of plastic that was falsely advertised as being 24 kt gold, and besides, I had already returned it.

Eventually, I started getting letters from collection agencies stating that Proxibid was the creditor and I owed them the money. I ended up filing complaints against Proxibid with Nebraska's Attorney General and also the Better Business Bureau of Nebraska. If you go on the BBB's web-site for Omaha, you will see they have numerous complaints filed against them.

I would strongly advise anyone from purchasing anything through Proxibid. Unlike Ebay, you cannot see the ratings of their sellers. Their sellers pay Proxibid to advertise their items on Proxibid.com. I found out later that the sellers can rate you, the buyer, and other sellers can blackball you if they don't like your rating. But you, the buyer, cannot rate the sellers; how unfair.

My advice is to stay with Ebay where buyers can rate the sellers. Hopefully no one else has to go through what I went through. What a nightmare over a little plastic pendant.

I know what you mean . . .

AUTHOR: andrias_report - (United States of America)

POSTED: Friday, September 09, 2011

I know exactly what you mean. They can rip people off in so many ways and have. My story is a little different. I bidded on an auction (W. Yoder auctions LLC Wautoma WI 54982)

 This is what I won,
18 barbie dolls, 2 very small glass pcs. about the size of a standard salt and pepper shaker, Gorham clock only 7"tall, copper windchimes and small frog, 3 small crystal clocks, 2 pcs of china (a cup and bowl)

small bakelite dresser set, and 4 milk bottles.  the total for the auction 298.00 plus add on the auctions premium of 18% which was 53.64. . .ok not to bad Im at 351.64 all ok  and Im thinking probalbly 100.00 to ship. . .THINK AGAIN I called the auction co. and asked how much it would be to ship and the girl on the other end said all I know is that its well over 200.00 to ship it and you can call the shipper to find out where she got that number. I did call the shipper and she said 265.00 to ship my auction. d**n near the cost of the auction before the premium. . . I was over a barrel and they knew it. I had already paid for my auction. and now they wanted 265.00 to ship??? barbie dolls dont weigh nothing and I already had a guy tell me at another auction that he shipped 25 barbies to venezuala for around 120.00

So I had a choice while I was about to throw up standing over my barrel I thought about it and I said no way. I probably already paid too much for this auction and now they want 265.00 to ship it.

I had no intention on paying these greedy slimeballs more money. I didnt call at first. I thought to hell w/ them I wont pay it Ill cancel that card. Then I get a message on my phone from the shipper who said he was going to start charging me a storage fee if I didnt pay the shipping. He left the message and sounded like he was holding back from laughing the entire time. I called back and left hima message letting him know Id eat that 351.64 but there was no way they would get another dime out of me.

I also sent them an email. I never heard anything back form them. They skated away with my winnings and laughed all the way to the bank.

I was talking with another guy from a different auction on another issue and I brought up what had happened to me. He agreed that I got stuck over a barrel and that was very dirty. He was also the one who told me he had sent 25 barbies to another country for 120.00

He suggested I call proxibid and atleast file a complaint. I called Proxibid and Im pretty sure I got someone over in India who said she would make a re-port and hand to her managers. She said someone would be calling me back this coming week. She asked what I wanted  and at this point I just said a refund. I know they will laugh at that one. I know I will not get my money back out of these kind of "bottom of the the barrel scums"  but atleast I can warn others,( like you have) to STAY AWAY!

I  will update this post with what if anything Proxibid has done.

The BBB is paid dues by Proxibid...so it means nothing!

AUTHOR: Kitten1 - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 29, 2009

If the BBB is paid dues by Proxibid it is in their best interest to close the complaint against them. I would not say the matter has been "settled" simply because the BBB removed the complaint. It still means the initial buyer may not have been dealt with fairly.

I know, I bought a clock through Proxibid using a company called Auction Depot in Ft. Worth Texas. Just google them with their address and you will see the google ratings on them. There are a few people they ripped off not just me.

I was horribly ripped off and was taken for almost $300 dollars by the owner Mr. Lou Fausak. When I asked Proxibid to help they basically said "Oh well" nothing they can do. Yet they run a ONLINE auction site with no ratings or reviews of the sellers. How can buyers make an informed decision regarding who is good or bad. Anyway....the auctioneer I dealt with was threatening and insulting when I requested a refund. So I would say Proxibid is really only interested in the auction houses that pay them to be listed on their site...they don't have any help for the buyer.

I would stay away from them until they learn to offer the buyer a way of rating or reviewing their online sellers.

Proxibid would be best described as an ASP or ASP model. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Application_service_provider)

We provide our technology to auctioneers to allow online bidding to occur in traditional auctions around the globe. Proxibid is a conduit that brings buyers and sellers together. While we earn a commission on every single items that sells on our website. We only make money when there is a happy buyer, seller, and auctioneer. If there is a problem with anyone in this transaction, we don't get paid. We are incentivized to addresses issues with auctioneers and bidders to ensure a successful transaction.

I have personally reached out to this bidder on several occasions, beginning in March 2006, to help resolve his complaints. All of my attempts to help were rejected by this person. Additionally, his claims have been dropped as they are unsubstantiated to the BBB and the attorney general. Everyone that has reviewed this case has sided with Proxibid. This person is misrepresenting the case as his story is not supported by documentation or facts of any kind.

This person did file a claim with the attorney general as stated. We filed our reply to his inquiry on January 2, 2008. The attorney general dropped the claim as Proxibid was proved successfully that this person has misrepresented the facts surrounding the case. He was unable to provide any factual information or documentation to support his claim.

Proxibid has been a member of the BBB since 12/06/2004 and we have an outstanding record that we are very proud of. The first filing we received on this issue was in 2006 and we received notice a second one in October 2007. We have only had 4 filings since we launched the company. Two of these filings were from this person. The BBB strongly agreed that Proxibid did everything that was possible to resolve this bidders issue.

In 2006, the year that this claim was filed, we conducted 1860 auctions, offering $968.619.067.69 in inventory, sold 77,513 of 433,122 lots to 17,709 different bidders.
