Hello, here is a copy of the letter I've sent to Questsavers, among other places:

January 7, 2004

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to dispute a series of charges that have been made to my Visa card without my knowledge or consent.

These charges stem from a catalog of home listings that I ordered through an ad in the Washington City Paper. A similar one appears in this week's City Paper:

HOMES FROM $10,000! 1-3BR. Repos and foreclosures. For listing, call 1-800-319-3323 x1886.

I ordered the listings, and provided my credit card number to pay for the shipment of the listings to my home. Upon receiving the catalog, it occurred to me instantly that I had been roped into a scam. I called the cancellation phone number right away, and cancelled all services. I asked the man on the other end of the phone three times if I was absolutely, 100% cancelled and that my credit card will never be charged again, to which I received a resounding yes.

I have just discovered that, over the last year and a half, two charges have appeared on my credit card statement every month: $9.95 to Reg*Legal Shield Club and $7.95 to Questsavers. These are the charges that I have a record of:

Reg*Legal Shield Club
August 13, 2002 $9.95
September 11, 2002 $9.95
October 14, 2002 $9.95
November 6, 2002 $9.95
December 31, 2002 $9.95
January 28, 2003 $9.95
February 25, 2003 $9.95
(con'd on following page)
Reg*Legal Shield Club (con'd)
March 25, 2003 $9.95
April 22, 2003 $9.95
May 20, 2003 $9.95
June 30, 2003 $9.95
July 29, 2003 $9.95
August 26, 2003 $9.95
September 23, 2003 $9.95
October 21, 2003 $9.95
November 18, 2003 $9.95
subtotal $159.20

Questsavers
August 7, 2002 $7.95
September 7, 2002 $7.95
October 8, 2002 $7.95
November 7, 2002 $7.95
December 7, 2002 $7.95
January 7, 2003 $7.95
February 7, 2003 $7.95
March 7, 2003 $7.95
April 8, 2003 $7.95
May 7, 2003 $7.95
June 7, 2003 $7.95
July 8, 2003 $7.95
August 7, 2003 $7.95
September 9, 2003 $7.95
October 7, 2003 $7.95
November 7, 2003 $7.95
December 7, 2003 $7.95
Subtotal $135.15

Total $294.35

I called the phone numbers listed on my statement for Reg*Legal Shield Club and for Questsavers. I pointed out that I had cancelled the initial home listings catalog I had ordered seventeen months earlier, and also that their charges were completely illegal and made without my knowledge or consent, and without my receiving any product or service whatsoever.

I was told by both was that the original service that I had cancelled was from a company that was not authorized to cancel these two other charges.

It seems that this original home listing service was authorized to instigate monthly charges on my account without my knowledge and for absolutely nothing in return, but not to cancel those same charges.

Questsavers has provided me with a credit voucher of $47.70 after my complaint. This means that they now owe me $87.43.

Red*Legal Shield Club has done nothing since my complaint. I was told that they would credit my statement for one or two months worth of charges. I suppose time will tell whether or not that happens. In the meantime, they now owe me $159.20.

I am copying this letter to James, Hoyer, Newcomer & Smiljanich because, according to their website, they have a particular interest in Questsavers, and I would like to inform them of my personal experience with Questsavers.

I am copying this letter to the Washington City Paper, for no other reason but for their information, in case they have received similar letters in the past. Of course, the City Paper has nothing to do with this and is merely printing one of hundreds of classified ads submitted to them each week. I am only copying it to them in case they have an interest in this sort of thing.

I am copying this letter to my attorney. In the event that I do not receive $87.43 from Questsavers and $159.20 from Reg*Legal Shield Club by the time I receive my credit card statement for the end of March, 2004, one or both of them can expect to hear from him.

And of course, the Better Business Bureau of Washington, D.C. will also be kept informed.

STOP! ..before you think about using the Better Business Bureau (BBB)... CLICK HERE to see how other consumers were victimized by the BBB's false or misleading information. Don't be fooled! It has been reported, when there are thousands of complaints and other investigations underway by authorities, the BBB has no choice but to finally give an UNsatisfactory rating to a BBB member business that is paying the BBB big membership fees every year. When a business is reported that is NOT a BBB member, BBB files WILL more likely show an UNsatisfactory rating, then reportedly shake down that company to become a member of the BBB. One positive thing about the BBB is, either way, if a business has an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB, you can be sure, the business is bad. But what about all those BBB member businesses that had complaints filed against them? Consumers never get to hear about them. What about the BBB advertising to the public? Is this a false and misleading perception they are giving about consumer confidence when dealing with a business? Click here to understand more of what consumers and business alike are saying about the BBB. You decide. ..Remember. The BBB membership is not earned, it's paid for!
