Radisson Lenexa Serious safety and health risks at this hotel Lenexa Kansas

I worked at the Radisson Lenexa for several years.

I can tell you that if the EPA and OSHA were to make a decent investigation of this property that we would be shut down immediately. This property is soon to be converted to a Crown Plaza hotel. I seriously doubt that that entity is aware of these issues.

1) The air conditioners work from a chiller/boiler setup on the tower side, small window package units on the other. You will find that 9/10 thermostats are not even hooked up, and are there strictly for show. The solenoid valves that control the flow of water (for heating and cooling) are non functioning in most rooms. They have to be manually turned on and off, when possible (often they are broken as well).

2) OSHA requires that all electrical wires be covered with conduit. Almost none are, specifically in the AC units which are VERY prone to leaking. Most wires spliced together do not even have wire nuts on them. This includes every aspect of the electrical system from the breakers through the entire building.

3) Our fire alarm panel has been cited numerous times for not being up to code. Nothing has been done to rectify this.

4) The EPA would be interested to find out that black mold infests every part of this establishment. Mostly due to improper insulation on cooling lines. The ceiling tiles in the hallways are in CONSTANT need of replacement due to this mold. There are at LEAST 2 layers of drywall THICK with mold behind the drywall you see, this is because every time it gets extremely noticeable the cheap owner of this company has it covered over, painted and papered. Most calls from housekeeping to maintenance are regarding bad mold on bathroom ceilings, which is promptly painted over with white latex paint. There are may places you can pull on soggy drywall and expose THICK black mold in the hallways and rooms.

5) There are literally hundreds of places that the roof leaks.

6) a great number of outside facing windows are cracked or broken. This is generally repaired with tape.

7) Of late, there have been several dozen cases of bedbugs reported in this facility

In short, I know that all of upper management is aware of these issues. They do not want to spend any money, and when they do, they hire no name people who bid lowest to do the work to avoid having this come to light. Staying at this facility is a hazard to your health and possibly your life
