They conned my 82 year old mother into ordering books or magazines, are charging her $25 per month, and won't cancel unless her doctor sends them a letter saying she has dementia. I never in my life heard of such a thing. If you want to cancel a subscription you should just be able to cancel it with no further charges. I am sure they have not sent her $75.00 worth of items in the last 3 months. To top it off, they also said they would not talk to ME further about this and that they will only speak to my mother. Yeah right. So they can talk her into more sh*t. They have already been told she isn't half there. Besides, they HAVE already spoken to my mother and have not honored her wishes. My mother has changed her bank account twice thinking that will stop them, but they can legally get her new card info because they have a "verbal contract" with her. She seems to be at their mercy and HAS to jump through ridiculous hoops just to make them go away. Who knows if that letter will even work. We are not in favor of sending them this letter from her doctor, as this is private medical information a sleazy telemarketer who preys on old people should not be entitled to have. I have filed a report with the BBB and the Indiana Attorney General. We'll see what happens.

I think you are right to be cautious about sending personal medical information to a stranger over the phone. There is no way that this so called company can make it a requirement to cancel the order - even if an order was actually made. Sending personal medical info would just compound any issues you have with this company in my opinion.
Instead, if it were me, I would contact the FTC(dot)gov and file a complaint about this company. This Readers Club sounds like a scam. If you read various complaint boards, you will see that they have a bad reputation for conning the elderly out of money and never sending any magazines. Good Luck in getting your complaint out there and shutting down access to your Mother's account.
