We've recently been made aware of the following post on Ripoffreport.com (http://www.ripoffreport.com/real-estate-law-cent/legal-services/los-angeles-california-940F5.htm).

The author of this post has never been an employee nor a client of Real Estate Law Center, P.C. The author has no knowledge or actual facts to base their assertions. We believe the post was written by someone with little knowledge of the legal field as it contains factual, spelling and grammatical errors.

Let's take a closer look at what the post reads, paragraph by paragraph.

This Law firm is nothing but a used car lot full of uneducated sales people who are promising the moon to distressed home owners. They are selling home owners on multi-party Law suits or Mass Joiners in the state of California and in other states across the country. They are promising monetary damages to home owners, principle balance reductions, sale date stoppage and interest rate reductions all as long as you join their multi party suit against chase, Wells Fargo, indy mac, Bank of America....YOU NAME IT and they will claim that they are in suit against them.

The poster is claiming that we are scam artists.

We're not.

According to Merriam-Webster online, a scam is defined as a fraudulent or deceptive act or operation.

Real Estate Law Center, P.C. is a law practice headed by Chad Pratt. He is an experienced courtroom litigator with over 20 years of experience. Mr. Pratt has never been disciplined by the State Bar of California. He works relentlessly for his clients. The seven lawyers who work in the Real Estate Law Center, P.C. office have passed the state bar and are licensed to practice law, in addition to numerous paralegals on staff. Like Mr. Pratt, they work countless hours to ensure that homeowners who have been wronged by banks are given the best legal representation we can provide.

We are currently have filed or are in preparation of filing six mass tort lawsuits in Los Angeles Superior Court. Mass tort lawsuits are a legitimate means of seeking a remedy in our legal system. They are not scams and have been used in many types of cases, the most notable being the settlement between 46 states and big tobacco.

Our mass tort cases do not cover every kind of mortgage, nor do they cover every mortgage holder. It's also worth noting that Mr. Pratt has filed numerous individual cases on behalf Real Estate Law Center P.C.'s clients.

However, in most cases, clients cannot afford an individual filing. Mass tort lawsuits allow a group of people who've been wronged by a lender to pool their resources to defend themselves.

The goal of the firm is to get a settlement or judgment for a principal rate reduction, interest rate reduction or monetary damages. We do not claim that filing a lawsuit will stop a foreclosure sale date. We ensure that every potential client understands that we do not guarantee a lawsuit will stop foreclosure or guarantee results. This is done during a recorded compliance telephone call with an attorney.

They are completely misleading home owners and try to hide it all by claiming their lead attorney Chad Pratt has a Clean Bar License and that they have a A+ rating on the BBB...Look Closely their rating with the BBB is not even accredited. This law firm is completely defrauding homeowners and is no different then a huge Ponzi Scheme, the only difference is they are claiming that they will turn your underwater property into an investment again. They have offices set up all across California and Real Estate Law Center is brokering themselves off and splitting fees with non attorneys. These brokers are running a floor of relentless sales people who are acting as attorneys and getting these innocent home owners to give away thier [sic] last dollars to lies!

If we were a scam or ponzi scheme, why would Real Estate Law Center, P.C. pay the fees and salaries of the lawyers and paralegals in its office?

No cases would be filed and no work would be done on behalf of the clients. However, we have filed cases and we have achieved numerous settlements in favor of our clients.

While we're on the subject of our office, Real Estate Law Center, P.C. does not have "offices set up all across California."

Our A+ Better Business Bureau rating is a reflection of the quality of work we do and the lack of complaints we receive. The rating is a fact, not a claim, and it is legitimate regardless of our accreditation status. The only way to be accredited by the Better Business Bureau is to pay an accreditation fee. Real Estate Law Center, P.C. has chosen not to do that.

We'd also like to emphasize this point which the poster has wrong (again) we do not contract with non-attorneys. We only contract with law firms. The allegation that we "split fees" with non-attorneys is false.

Some of the people who perform intake calls for Real Estate Law Center, P.C. are attorneys and they are the only ones who identify themselves with that title. During the compliance call, potential clients must affirm that some of the people they've spoken to are not attorneys and cannot give legal advice or they will not be retained.

This Law Firm is complete fraud and its a shame that attroneys [sic] like this exsist [sic]. Run Away from MASS JOINER or MULTI-PARTY LAW SUITS, its a scam. Please go to the link below which was issued by The Federal Trade Commission and below it another link article issued by The Department Of Real Estate

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/alerts/alt082.shtm

(((link redacted)))

Let us reiterate: Mr. Pratt has never been disciplined by the State Bar of California. If you're a potential client and have concerns, we invite you to make an appointment and visit one of the attorneys on staff.

All of our potential clients must speak with an attorney before they are retained by the firm. Again, this is a recorded conversation. We provide clients with retainer agreements. We state in all of our advertising and in the retainer agreement that there is no guaranteed outcome.

After reading the Federal Trade Commission link, one might be led to believe that most firms dealing with mass tort lawsuits are suspect. As we've said, there is nothing unethical or illegal about mass tort lawsuits. Closer reading will reveal that the article is about scam artists posing as lawyers.

However, the FTC also gives some very solid advice. Anyone looking for any kind of legal advice would be wise to:

  • Check out the lawyers you're thinking of retaining
  • Ask questions about their record
  • Speak to one of the attorneys directly
  • Ask for records and articles about the settlements they've reached
  • Stay away from anyone guaranteeing results
  • Keep a record of all correspondences
As we've laid out in this post, Real Estate Law Center, P.C. is a legitimate law practice. We have fought and will continue to fight on behalf of our clients to ensure the banks respect and honor their responsibilities to homeowners.
