Purchased a computer from Rent-A-Center. Made payments every 2 weeks. Before payments were even due, employees would call 7 or 8 times a day, threatening, if you did not call them back. When I would make a payment, and ask them for a total on my balance, it would be one amount one week and two weeks later, it might be several hundred or more dollars above or below what the total was 2 weeks before. One time I called and got the balance, and the next time I called and got the balance, which was 2 weeks later, the total was 2 thousand dollars more than the previous total. The last 2 weeks I did business with them, I called and got the balance and they told me I owed $2,550.00 which was more than the original price. I finally wrote a letter and complained to the manager who then sent me a statement showing my true balance and I paid it off. The manager then threatened to turn me in to the Attorney General's office for telling them I would not make anymore payments until I got the true balance total.

Threating people who are customers at rent a center it trained behavior. Its what they are taught to do. There is not a thing he could do to you about not paying your bill. If anything it would be a cival suit and once youve put so much money into your item there isnt crap they can do. Ya know if that store manager would have been smart instead of threating you rent a center would probably still have you as a customer but guess what once again its all about that mighty dollar not about your needs. Hopefully many people have learned their lesson renting from there. you do know for every customer unhappy word of mouth hurts a business the most.T hey lose 12 potential customer per one bad story and belive me this company has gone way down hill in the last year. Take it from someone who really knows this company DO NOT RENT AGAIN!!!!That is the best advice for all of you.

Your statement applies in most of these Rent-A-Center complaints:
'I would have been better off saving for the merchandise.'
But too many people who complain of being 'scammed' absolutely MUST have that Plasma TV--a computer in each room--the latest high-tech refrigerator, etc.
I agree it may occasionally be necessary to go to a store of this type for assistance. But why not just rent the very basic necessities, save your money, and purchase on your own?
Good advice.

I hate Rent A Center, however, in my younger days did purchase items from them over the full contract term. Very expensive and often unneccesary, I would have been better off saving for the merchandise.
Be careful, in many states failure to return rental property to the owner is considered theft and could cause more trouble than it is worth to you.
