I joined Classmates.com and at the end of joining and giving my debut/credit card information there was a pop up for Reservation Rewards that stated that I had a $10.00 discount coupon I could print out to shop anywhere( I never printer this out since I do not have a printer). It said you could get discounts and I thought this was great since I have a 5 year old my husband and I live on tight budget. It never said that you would be charged.

Since I have access to my bank account online, I check it everyday and noticed that on May 29th I was charged a $10.00 fee from Reservation Rewards.

I have never printed out the coupon for the $10.00, in fact I have never even gone on the site at all. I called the phone number and told them why was I charged the $10.00, they told me that it was part of the package of joining Classmates. I told them I only paid for Classmates not for you. Your pop up said that you were giving me a $10.00 coupon for discount and to print it out which I never did. Why did you charge me? She said it was part of the deal and that since I clicked on the pop up I was charge and the charge can not be reversed!

I told her please cancel this membership and I want an email send to me to confirm this and I told her that your site is a fraud and I will let others know this! Then I hung up!

I happend to find your site and Iam so glad that I did!

I think Iam going to email or call my local Channel 5- New York's Fox and contact Arnold Diaz and get then put on the segment SHAME ON YOU!

Thank you for letting tell my story.

EDitor's Suggestions on how to get your money back!

HERE IS WHAT RIP-OFF REPORT SUGGESTS YOU DO:

Go to your bank within 60 days of the charge, or as soon as you know about the charge, don't delay, and tell them that there has been fraudulent activity within your account. Explain that you wish to file a dispute, and demand that they assist you in accordance with Federal Regulation E.

According to the majority of victims interviewed by Rip-off Report, those who immediately called their banks to dispute the charges did not get very far. Many victims got the following responses from their banks: we could not do anything for you or you waited too long; it has been more than 60 days.

If the bank is says that you have waited too long, explain to them how you called their 800 number as soon as the charges were found, and were told by the bank that nothing could be done. Remind the bank that they failed to assist you properly at the 800 #, and instead, provided you with an inadequate explanation of your right to dispute. Tell the bank that it's their fault time has expired, and since they gave you the wrong info to begin with, they will just have to deal with it, take the loss and reverse the charges.

Tell them the truth; this was unauthorized and your account was NOT to be charged! Keep emphasizing how you never authorized anything! Direct them to the hundreds of victims reports that were filed on Rip-off Report.com. And if you're at the bank, walk them over to their computer and make them go to this site! If you are on the phone with them, tell them you will wait while they access this site! Either way, be persistent!

DO NOT TAKE NO FOR AN ANSWER!

Let them know nicely, that you were advised to Report them (the Bank) and this situation to the Banking Commission in your state. Since each state has a different name for the agency/controller over banks, find that name before you call or get to the bank so you can throw it in their face. The more knowledgeable you appear to be, the further you will get.

And just continue to demand the Federal Regulation E form! The bank CAN, MUST and WILL reverse the charge! But, you must be persistent; ask to speak to the supervisor or the area manager for all the branches in the state.

Let the bank personnel know you are meeting with the media later in the day, that you would much rather they do the right thing (as most other banks have) by looking at the complaints and immediately reversing the charge(s) to your account; no matter how long ago it was. Be sure to call the Media if necessary so you are telling the truth.

If you have to, be loud (but nice) in front of other customers. If you are just calling by phone, the above tactics should still work. The bank can easily fax or mail to you the Federal Regulation E dispute form.

CHARGES TO YOUR CREDIT CARD

If the charge was to your credit card (not debit card, check card, or checking account), contact the credit card company as soon as possible to request a dispute form. Consumers usually have a little longer to dispute fraudulent credit card charges (up to 6 months), but it is better to act right away. In this type of situation, credit card disputes are usually successful since fraudulent companies often won't contest the disputed charge. In rare cases, credit card companies will review disputes, but refuse to reverse the charges. If this occurs, complain to a manager and let them know you will be filing a report here.

Remember Don't let them get away with it! Make sure they make the Rip-off Report .. The more Reports filed on a Company or individual, the more likely it is that the authorities, media and attorneys will want to take action.

And good luck Let us know how you do!

Automatic Renewal of Classmates.com

AUTHOR: Dan - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, June 11, 2007

When you joined Classmates.com, you may not know that the default renewal is set to 'automatic'. That is, when your current subscription expires, you will automatically be billed again for another renewal perios. If you don't want this to happen, go to your account settings and change it to 'manual' I've done this because in my opinion, classmates.com isn't what I'm looking for, but I'm giving them a chance. Actually, most of my classmate from 1966 were from the pre-computer age and I don't think many of them are computer literate

Note: This is also true of 'Reunion.com' site.

Periodically check your account settings to ensure that it hasn't be reset to 'automatic' renewal.

Was credited my money back from Reservations Rewards!

AUTHOR: Lisa - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, June 08, 2007

After I posted my complaint here about how I was charged $10.00 to my credit card by Rservation Rewards after I joined Classmates.com.I emailed Classmates and they helped me get my money back.

Here is my correspondence with Classmates as follows:

To: membercare@mc.classmates.com
Subject: Other site feature questions

When I joined the site there was a popup at the end of my membership for $10.00 discount coupon for Reservation Rewards. It said to print it out and you could use it at any store to save money. Since I do not have a printer I never printed this out I paid for my Classmates membership with my debut/credit on card and I have access to this account online.

On May 29th I noticed I had a charge to my account from Reserevation Rewards for $10.00. I called and asked why I was charged this fee since I never printed this coupon out or have used their site. They told me, I was charged since I clicked on the link when I joined Classmates and that it was part of the Classmates membership package.
They also told me that I will not be refunded!

This is fraud to charge someone without their knowledge and I have placed a complaint on the Rippoff.com site.

I want you to know about this since, I now would like to cancel my membership to your site.

Its really nothing personal, but, I am very upset that I was part of a fraud. If you go to www.ripoffreport.com, you will see that Iam not your only customer who was scammed by this other site.
Please look into this and get rid of that pop up on your site!

Lisa

Hi Lisa,

Thank you for contacting Classmates. I'm more than happy to assist you.

Thank you for sending us your concerns regarding your experience and theweblo
charges to your credit card. According to our records you accepted an offer with one of our partners, Webloyalty, who offers Reservation Rewards.

In response to your communication to us, we will advise Reservation Rewards to cancel and refund (if applicable) your membership immediately. You will receive an email response within 48-72 hours from their customer service team verifying your request.

I understand and appreciate your frustration in trying to understand the billing on your credit card. I'd like to provide you with a little background that may help to explain why this happened. When you completed your Classmates Gold membership purchase or renewal, you were presented with an opportunity to participate in a free trial offer with Reservation Rewards. This offer was presented on its own individual page and included highlighted "Offer Details" and buttons labeled "Yes" and "No Thanks".

In order for your Reservation Rewards membership to be activated you would have had to enter your email address and selected the "Yes" button. By selecting "Yes" you authorized Classmates to provide your information to Reservation Rewards. Immediately above the boxes where you entered your email address is the statement: "By entering my email address as my electronic signature and clicking YES, I have read and agreed to the Offer Details and authorize Classmates.com to securely transfer my name, address and credit or debit card information to Reservation Rewards for billing and benefit processing".

The Offer Details, which were provided next to the "Yes" and "No Thanks" buttons, stated the length of the free trial, auto renewal information, the amount of the subscription fee, as well as a toll free number for cancellation. During the trial membership, Reservation Rewards sent out welcome and billing notification emails to the address you provided so that you may cancel and avoid being billed past the free trial period.

Again, I have requested cancellation and a refund (if applicable) for your subscription with Reservation Rewards. In the meantime, should you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Webloyalty's Reservation Rewards customer service team directly by email at customerservice@reservationrewards.com or via their toll-free number, 1-800-889-8776.

For more information regarding our Credit Card policy, visit http://www.classmates.com/cmo/terms.jsp .

Thank you for your membership and participation in the Classmates community.

I hope this information was helpful. If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Steffy
Classmates Member Care Department

A few days later I went online to check my credit card and I was credited back the $10.00 charge.

My advice to other is to always look carefully before joining any site for the pop up advertisements---If they look to good to be true --they are !

Lisa
