Home Depot's salesmen push their housebrand "Ridgid" power tools by touting the "Lifetime Warranty", but they never warn you that you must rush home and go on line and register the purchase on the Ridgid web site to get that warranty. I have a kit full of their 12V rechargeble tools, and just use them on small crafts in my garage. And I have bought 4 extra batteries, and my wife and kids have been giving me new accessories to add to the kit for Christmas and Fathers Day gifts, thereby inadvertantly trapping me to stay with this set that I should have just thrown away. They look brand spanking new and are hardly used. But it seems that every time I go to use the tools, one of the batteries has failed and I must throw it out and go buy another, because when I started this kit I did not know that I had to register each purchase to get the gurantee. I hate to throw out a hazardous Li-Ion battery that cost more then the tool and that was supposedly guaranteed for life just because I got tricked by the "you didn't register it" scam. I thought Home Deopot was better than this. Lowes does not pull this crap with their Kobalt tools, or let their customers get ripped off like this.

Ridgid owner

AUTHOR: Vegas - ()

POSTED: Saturday, February 22, 2014

Over the last 3 years I have invested a little over $1200 into the Ridgid brand name line of tools for personal projects and to help make ends meet. Another $400 or so that were part payment for getting a job done, and effectivly came out of my pocket. All my Ridgid tools get consistently used. They are nice tools that work well, and I have yet to have even a hiccup with one of them because I treat my tools very well despite how much they get used. I was planning on making my most important two tool purchaces to date earlier this month, and was doing more reasearch into the brand I buy for a reliable tool and the image that Ridgid presents that appears to whole heartedly put their customers first. I've read dozens of complaints regarding how poorly the Ridgid customer service treats their customers, how worthless their warrenty really is, how little service they actually provide to their customers, how slowly they act to remedy a problem, and seeing that they want to weasle their way out of anything honest that may have really set their brand apart. Within the principles that I do everything, in particular provide services to my customers, be it on the jobsite or on the road I always put the person paying me first, that happens to be the paying customers, not a supervisor. If I say to them up front (on the box if you will) I'll do something, I do it. I dont put them down and say its their mistake not mine, or make them register within 90 days on something I advertise before purchase without fineprint, I don't give them bs excuses or dodge repairing what I said I would, I would never tell them something isn't broken when its not working right, I sure don't make them wait a month to get their problem solved, and the last thing I never do is not follow through on my word. Through this I have decided that I will not be making a two part tool purchase from Ridgid that was going to ring up in $800 range total before taxes. Ridgid you have lost a customer for life, a younger man with lots of years to go, and plenty of money to be made and spent in the future. I didn't need the warrenty, I can fix my own tools, I have from the start. I'm dissatisfied because I feel a lot of people were lied to with a false sence of reassurance and I thought I was buying into honesty. Obviously deception rules the kingdom as your little Ridgid lovers above sound a whole lot like some salary D bags on your payroll. Regards, Lost Profits

Did you read the LSA

Sir, did you read the agreements of your Lifetime Service Agreement?  First of all, you do not have to "rush home" and register your purchase. Ridgid gives you 90 days (3 months) to register your purchase which in my opinion is plenty of time if you actually want your tools to be covered.  Secondly, Ridgid has wonderful customer service and is  100% effective at honoring their Lifetime Service Agreement

I just have one question...Did you forget to register and now your mad at yourself for not having LSA?

Why would you not want to take the time to make sure your tools are covered even if you do have to call in every time to re-register replacement parts? That is crazy!

Ridgid makes great tools and their customer service is wonderful

"Home Depot's salesmen push their housebrand "Ridgid" power tools by touting the "Lifetime Warranty", but they never warn you that you must rush home and go on line and register the purchase on the Ridgid web site to get that warranty."

In every one of those tools, what does the warranty registration card that is in the box say?

Who, at Home Depot, should tell you "Don't forget to register your tool(s) to get the warranty?"  Take a little responsibility instead of blaming someone else for your failure to read/comprehend the info in the box.
