I went to the Ashley Furniture warehouse on Sunday to pick up my two night stands I ordered. The warehouse is in Rancho Bernardo. They came already packaged in boxes as most furniture do. Silly me, I assumed they'd be in good condition once I got home and unpacked them. I mean, who lets crap out of their warehouse?! Well, Ashley Furniture does.
When I got home and opened the box, the night stand came apart! It was a piece of junk. The drawers underneath were broken and there was a big scratch on the front. I didn't bother to open the other box. I just wanted my money back.
So, I lugged them back in my car and drove to the showroom where I actually bought them and told Gino, the store manager, they came apart and I would like my money back. Gino said they wouldn't be able to take them back unless "I" took them back to the warehouse myself. "Oh, it's just a short drive up the freeway," he said. No biggie. Well, it is a biggie when you've troubled your mother to lend you her car on a Sunday and you drove from El Cajon to RB and then to Carmel Valley to Miramar only to hear them say, "YOU will need to drop them off before you can get your money back."
Ashley Furniture, it's your mistake - YOU sold me junk! Why should "I" have to go through the trouble. I asked if I could leave the pieces there and they refused. Gino told me he had no where to store them. Uh..hello! You're a furniture store! Where do you handle furniture that comes into your showroom?
By this time I felt he was threatening me - keeping my money hostage. He handed back my credit card and insisted that unless I took the night stands back to the warehouse, I wouldn't get my money put back onto my card. I told him I wasn't leaving. He said he would get me escorted out. I said go ahead, call the cops and he did!!! It should not have gone this far but alas, little Gino couldn't let it go. Cops came and by this time another manager showed up - Georgia. I will say she was nice and professional. She resolved the problem by letting me leave the pieces there and refunded my money - what should have happened from the beginning.
I should have walked from the beginning. The sales guy that helped me was useless. I was there forever. It didn't take me that long to buy my car! Not worth the trouble. Their furniture is crap and they don't believe in the customer is always right.
