*Consumer Suggestion: Not a scam
RJM Acquisitions sent an offer to settle an acquired debt from "Fingerhut". I had never heard of Fingerhut. This is an scam. I've sent a compliant to the Federal Trade Commission and the California State Attorney General. This appears to be a classic scam hopping some will pay.

I'd check my credit reports.
If this item appears, you are in a perfect position to demand that the 3 credit bureaus remove because they didn't validate it. If it's there, send a certified, return receipt requested letter to the credit bureau demanding it be removed as false per the FCRA.
You may indeed be correct that it's a scam, but I would check my credit report just to be safe.

Having sent a dispute, and request for the information they "claimed" to have; by Certified Mail, on July 9, 2007. RJM has not responded and has not provided any information. As I'd stated this is a pure scam, and they just hope someone is stupid enough to send them money.

Not a scam

They are a collection agency and they are required to send a written notice to whomever they are trying to collect from per the FDCPA.
You need to send them a certified letter, return receipt requested, proclaiming this is not your debt and demand validation per the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
The are required to validate the debt and furnish you with the documents requested. After you receive the validation documents, you can decide what further action you need to take.
Do NOT call them or speak to them on the telephone - send the letter. Also, do a search for the FDCPA and find out what your rights are and what they are required to do.
