We went to Branson for Christmas and stayed in my parents timeshare condo.  When we got there and I was talking to my mother about some shows we were going to, she told us if we go to Shoneys for breakfast that there is a desk inside and a young man named Matt that we could get a discount on our tickets because they had just joined that travel club and put our names on there so we could use the discounts as well.  In a separate talk my mother also told me that this was the last time we would be staying in that condo because they had sold it.

My fianc and I showed up at Shoneys for breakfast the next morning.  As soon as the person at the desk for the vacation club showed up I went over to speak with him and get discounted tickets for Dixie Stampede.  Matt proceeded to talk to me about how we could get discounts on the other shows we were going to and all we had to do was sit in on a 90 minute presentation for the vacation club and no purchase is necessary and we could get discounts on all our tickets.  We said sure, so Matt gave us the proper documents to bring the following morning and we left.

On Thursday, December 24, 2009 we went to the meeting.  They shortened it to 30 minutes making us think they were doing us a favor.  It started off nicely and sounded great until they took us to a private room where they began the closing process. We were recorded several times when asked specific questions like "are you sure you want to purchase this program?" The program was supposedly worth over $15,000, they had discounted it down to $3900.00 just as a special for that day and we were supposed to receive savings of more than the cost of the program.  The agents definitely misrepresented the benefits of this travel agency and over-charged us for the so-called benefit. It is obvious that we can receive travel prices just as cheaply through other sources without paying a $4,000 membership and $100 annual dues.

When I called them, I was told it was past the 3 day cancellation period and they could not void the contract.  I was also told that we needed to call CRI to book a vacation for the best price and not use the website. This is a complete opposite of what we were told at the presentation. Of course when you are traveling to Branson, they are counting on you to stay several days and by the time you get home, it is past the 3 day cancellation period so they have you.  Their presentation was very misleading at best, Roark Vacation Travel Club and Club Resorts Intervals are unable to deliver the service that was presented and sold, and is outright fraudulent.

Furthermore, my parents are in their 70s and they outright ripped them off!!  I called my mother and found out that they led them to believe they were buying their condo not just trying to sell it so they will be stuck with the maintenance fees on that as well as forking over $4000 to them.  They paid the same price as we did being led to believe they were getting a $5000 discount for trading in their timeshare.  So basically they just handed their timeshare over to them for nothing.  That is about as low as you can get to rip-off elderly people and at Christmas time on top of that.

Whoever you are, Ed, I would like a copy of that Do-It-Yourself-Guide, Rip-Off Revenge.  They ought to have a stand at all these kinds of meetings just to off-set the 3 day cancellation period.  That right there should tell you its a scam.  That should be against the law, not the law.
