I bid on a lot that I had been looking for for some time.  Once I got it I asked for one particular item in the lot to be specially packaged so as to protect it from mail damage.  In order to do this, I had to specify which particular item in the lot it was.  I guess I should have been more clever about how I did this, because he realized that particular item was worth protecting (using special packaging, but that's not how he saw it apparently - he wanted to keep me from getting an item that I had bid for and won FAIR AND SQUARE); he confessed that he wasn't aware of it and pretty much admitted that he had the item on him (in his possession).

A week later he cancelled the order.  He claimed that the lot with the special item was on "consignment" and that he apparently didn't have the lot any more, even though he contradicated this story in an earlier e-mail.  He also wouldn't answer a question I asked about whether he cancelled a similar lot won by someone else, but I checked his feedback and lo and behold, that lot went through and the guy gave him a positive feedback for it, which means he out right lied about his whole bogus story.

Ebay (of course) won't do anything about this.  They've never been helpful to anyone unless they're the big traders... the little guy constantly gets screwed by them.  This guy has been able to take advantage of the fact that he realizes he should try to build a reputation and actually maintain good practices most of the time so that if necessary, he can rip someone else off and take a hit on one unfortunate (even if it means getting negative feedback for the first time in a long time) while keeping on treating everyone else fairly.  I've tried every possible recourse through Ebay and they won't do diddly squat about this.  This guy is dishonest and will cancel an auction I won FAIR AND SQUARE because he decides he can get more money by canceling it last minute after I paid for the lot.  Talk about sleazy!  I hope someone else catches onto him finally.

Item did not sell for jacked-up price, so he relisted for a SLIGHTLY LESS jacked-up price

Plus he blocked me from bidding -- basically because I caught him in a lie and left feedback letting people know -- and Ebay, of course, has no problem with letting him do this.

Just as I asserted, he lied about "having the items on consignment"

AUTHOR: Distinguished Comic Buyer - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, January 06, 2011

He has the items he claimed that he had to return to the original owner and he's listed them up for sale at a very jacked-up price.

Check it out at http://cgi.ebay.com/Archies-BETTY-VERONICA-320-322-1st-Cheryl-Blossom-/220719887244

I took a screen capture and would upload it but there are serious bugs in Ripoff Report's photo upload system so just check out the link.

"Stop using Ebay?" Silly suggestion.

AUTHOR: Distinguished Comic Buyer - (USA)

POSTED: Sunday, October 03, 2010

If you used Ebay, you'd know that buyers are 100% protected from getting ripped off in the sense that they'll either get their product as promised in the description or their money back, but in this case I wanted him to honor the auction, not rip me off in the sense that he gave me my money back and went back on the auction.  It was a scam in that sense only.  Schmuck he was, but he didn't take my money and run.  You really don't know much about Ebay, it seems --  I don't know what you have against them (trust me, I have my own issues with them), but I won't be joining you in your boycott.  Sorry.

As for the feds, I think they have better things to do than go after some comics they think are stolen.

As for local merchants, their selection is useless and they generally overcharge.  And frankly, I feel dirty when I go to most comic stores or comic cons.  There are some exceptions but they are few and far between and the selection at those places simply isn't sufficient and again many of those places overcharge... it's like you have to pay for the privelege of not feeling dirty.

Thanks but no thanks to that one.

#1 Consumer Suggestion

WHY DON'T YOU STOP USING eBAY?

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, October 03, 2010

I LIKE TO VISIT THE ebAY SITE AND LOOK AT ALL OF THE THINGS THERE

BUT

HOW DO I KNOW FOR SURE I WILL GET WHAT I PAY FOR

OR

ANYTHING AT ALL

IF I SEND SOME SCHMUCK MY HARD-EARNED MONEY?

A LOT OF STOLEN THINGS GET FENCED ON eBAY TOO.

YOU WANT THE FEDS SHOWING UP AT YOUR PLACE WITH A WARRANT?

SO I SHOP AT HOME WITH MY LOCAL MERCHANTS AND I KNOW WHO I AM DEALING WITH.
