Rodney Bess Contractor, Handyman, Hardwood Flooring Installer Scam Artist, User, does not pay his employees Winston Salem North Carolina

This is a SCAM alert!

I am hoping to do my diligent duty as a caring human being in hopes I can spare any other gullible trusting people the pain of doing any business with a “alleged”contractor by the name of Rodney Bess. He has connections in Winston-Salem, Charlotte and Raleigh Durham. He has a couple different cell phone numbers based in Charlotte/Concord NC. Evidently he has the habit of not living up to his obligations as an employer. He does not do as he promises. He is NOT a licensed contractor although he promotes himself as such.

He took on a job in Pilot Mountain NC at the Econolodge Hotel renovating the rooms there. He placed ads on Craigslist and Facebook looking for experienced painters and sheet rock people. My husband was one of the unlucky people to answer his ad. My husband worked for this man for 1 week driving the hr each way every day. The agreed on time for paying was Friday. When Friday came Rodney informed my husband that he didn't have the money. So my husband told him that he was not working for him anymore since he could not do as he promised!

My husband does as he says and he expects the same from everyone else! He told him he would be back next week to collect his money. He was told it would be Tuesday. When Tuesday came around Rodney then informed him again that he did not have the money. My husband spoke to one of the manager's at the Econolodge in Pilot Mountain NC who informed him he had already paid Rodney. He said that he and Rodney had a contract and it was Rodney's responsibility to pay his hired hands. Rodney then told my husband to come back that afternoon. Then the time changed to Wednesday for getting paid and during the course of the day Wednesday the meeting time went from 10:30 to 12:30 to 3:30. After that it was “I will call you when I am done”. He never received a call.

This morning, I spoke with a lady at the Econolodge in Pilot Mountain. She is one of the acting managers there. She told me they had to get the police to escort Mr.Bess off the property this morning. She said they had so many people calling there threatening them because of the alleged contractor not paying them they had to do something. She informed me that they just hired Rodney at the spur of the moment because they had work that needed to be done. She admitted she did not even know where he was from. I am not sure what kind of binding contract a business can have with someone where they are not provided the contractors information? She also stated that she paid Rodney a couple different times as he completed work.

Mr.Bess has a pattern of operation. He will work someone up to the point it is about time to pay them and he will then fire them. I am assuming that is a way to skip out on paying them what he owes? This man is a player and manipulator. The first day of work before he even met my husband in person he actually asked my husband to drive to Winston Salem to pick him up because his car broke down. My husband being the person he is, did it. He drove over an hr one way from our home to pick this man up. At that point I had begged my husband not to go. I told him that it should be a red flag that a person he was supposed to be working for did not even have a way to the job. I was so suspicious of Mr. Bess I even called the Motel to see if he really was working there.
The lesson in all this is, you can't treat people that way and get by with it for long! You should always trust your instincts about things, God gives you that six sense for a reason. Some people tend to ignore it.
