I bought the 5 piece dining set with the really nice looking chairs from this store on the 23rd of May 2013, and brought it home, thinking it wouldn't take 2 days to actually assemble it.
I brought in the table top first, the box weighed about 85 pounds alone, so I brought in pieces at a time while tugging my puppy along on her leash. She was good about it.
Upon opening up the box, I noticed the table top and the parts to the chairs, including the seat tops were in plastic (the table top was in a box by itself). I set out the parts and instruction sheet that was just a diagram that was too hard to read by the sizes and pictures of the screws and parts to the chairs and table.
Having read it was made in China, I was getting a little angry at the diagram and how small it was to read the print.
My first attempt at assembly was putting the frame of the chair together. Then seeing how there were no predrilled holes for the seat, FIRST problem, I quit assembling the chairs. I didn't have the strength nor the power tools to drill holes for the screws to attach the seat to the chair frame.
I counted every piece shown in the diagram and the screws for the table didn't match my count. Upon looking at the table top to attach the frame I noticed only 2 predrilled holes and yet there are 6 brackets for it. Out of the 6 brackets 2 of them had to be pounded out flat with a hammer and looked damaged. SECOND problem.
I continued to put the frame together and attach it to the table top. Well when I did and laid it on the table top to line up the only 2 holes, the one hole lined up with the bracket but the other one didn't, thus leaving me with a crooked frame and waste of time to drill 5 more holes to line up the frame to the table top.
I feel buying this I was ripped off because quite frankly I can go to my local Big Lots, buy a similar dining set and put it together by myself in less time than this failed attempt. I had never had any past problems with any other products from Rose's, but this is the last draw.
If it weren't for living 45+ miles away from the store I bought this set at, it would've gone back to the store the way it sits now. I probably would've traded them the assembled table and chairs for the half-assembled set that I have here in my dining area.
I will attempt to call the store manager and explain this situation and inform them of this report. Everyone should know about the furniture from Rose's that comes in a damaged box, damaged pieces, and missing pieces for that matter. It's a disgrace and I will NEVER buy furniture, let alone anything else from them ever again.
