I received a call this morning from someone at RPM asking for my wife. I informed that they could talk to me, boy was I in for a surprise!!!

Apparently RPM recently acquired some old MCI accounts or something. Point is it has been 5+ years since we were even customers of MCI. It do remember that it was a nightmare though. I also know that we left MCI not owing them a dime.

One of the straws that broke the camel's back at MCI was the billing issues. We had outlandish charges and incorrect statements come to us more than once. We spent hours upon hours with customer support to get all this worked out. At the time I found on the net that I was not the only one with the trouble, some people were even worse off than we were... I digress.

Now 5+ years later I've got some dept collector telling me how I need to pay my "court verified" dept. It will be a cold day in Hades before I write them a check for $525 for a dept we DO NOT owe.

What do we do though, this really has me scratching my head? Dealing with dept collectors is something I'm not too familiar with.

In any regards, I hope we have documentation to support our account status with MCI. Given the time span though, we very well may not. Anybody else out there in this boat with me???

Honestly I feel very frustrated currently and although I am not normally a litigious person... it would be nice if there were some recourse I could take against MCI for their continued negative presence in my life.

Asked for verfication

AUTHOR: David - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, September 15, 2008

I did some research and ended up sending them a certified letter to the collector's address disputing and asking for verification of the dept. That was the end of that and if another dept collector tries to collect on this account again... I have the letter saved ready to go.

MCI & RPM gone for good?

AUTHOR: David - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, August 09, 2007

Well, after my initial report above I dug around on the net and wrote a letter to RPM disputing the charges. For those in this same boat do a Google search on disputing collections letters. I spent an evening reading letter examples and the laws about dept collection regulation. I probably could have sued RPM as the first contact by phone from them they fictitiously represented what they had to verify the dept.

In any regards, after receipt of the dispute letter they had 30 days to produce some evidence and of course they couldn't and we haven't heard a peep from them since. So I am glad this is finally over... I hope. I guess the account could be sold to another debt collector and I am keeping the letter on file just in case.

Good riddance to both MCI and RPM Collections.

i had the same problem with MCI

AUTHOR: Burgmama - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, August 08, 2007

I've NEVER had service with MCI but I recieved the same collections calls for a bill they said i owed from July of 1999 for 4 days and racked up 187.00 worth of service. I told them that it was not my debt and that I would never pay it. My "account" was transfered to another collection agency Called Resurgent Capital Services, LP. 15 South Main Street Suite 600, Greenville, SC 29601

I wrote a letter stating that i never had MCI service and that if they could send me proof of the phone numbers that I called while on the MCI service that I would be happy to pay their claim. I included the Following sentence: "If MCI cannot produce the proof required then you can collect the $187.00 from Bernie Evers ex-MCI CEO, he should be easy to find, He's doing 25 years in prison for fraud."

Two months later I recieved a letter stating that Based upon research conducted by the Customer Service Department, that the above account has been closed and a request has been sent to the three major credit agencies to delete this account.

Good Luck
