I have received an email from Sallie Mae stating I owe $205.89 and it is due on 04/09/2014. I was told that the collection calls would not stop or  anything like that until the $205.89 gets paid. They said that I have until April 9,2014 to pay it or it would go back into collections. I called them in early March to pay for February, March and April. They charged me $14.00 to pay with a prepaid credit card for a fee. On March 10, 2014, the transaction went through. I called Sallie Mae and this Towel Head said that I have to pay again because the transaction went through but it went for the the wrong loans. They couldn't transfer it or anything. I told them I would pay them again the same amount even though it is pointless. This guy told me that they I can go through a forbearance. I told him I didn't want that and enough of these circle games. I shouldn't have to pay the same bill 2x. He said it could damage my credit report and things like that. I told him I got accepted for FAFSA. I told him that this is the first time that this happened. I had used my credit card to pay Allied Interstate, Integrity, and ECMC all along. My credit card expires in April but the lady I talked to from Allied Interstate told me to call her back in April for the new card number so the transactions can get paid again. She offered me a settlement, but I told her I don't have the money. I would rather pay it off in full and get over with. I talked to Sallie Mae and they said starting in May I would be paying about $68.63 in May becasue the payments are 109 payments all together. It is bad enough I got scammed for a school that closed down which was Sanford Brown Institute in Springfield, MA but to threaten with collections and to have it on my credit report again is just stupidity. Customer Sercice needs to get their heads out of their a**es and do their jobs correctly the first time and correctly so people won't go through this again.

help with Sallie Mae

AUTHOR: DVA - ()

POSTED: Friday, June 06, 2014

this is not really a rebuttal more of an attempt to help with dealing with sallie mae... I do not want to say how much I owe them, but let's just say I am paying much more than you - way more. I have been in constant battle with this company and their mob boss collection tactics. some tipss:

1. never call the 1800 number they tell you on your payment booklet. You get some answering service in a third world country, which I am researching if it is legal or not. These people have access to your address, your social security - who is to say they don't take out credit cards, commit identity theft, etc. with your information and they cannot be prosecuted since they are not in the US - but I digress

2. Call instead 18777704157 - it is the collections department and if they say you need to call the other number demand that they transfer you to a US based call center; you get faster service if you enter your SSN wrong; it bypasses all the options and you get to a person faster. be nice to the person on the phone and compliment them if you can do it naturally (they are not the enemy, the company is. In all likelihood they owe Sallie Mae too), and then ask for their direct extension. This has worked very well for me.

3. ALWAYS ask for the EID# if they do not want to give it to you, demand a supervisor. If they still don't ask for the formal complaint address that usually does it

4. If you are having any problems with them -- ANYTHING -- call the Sallie Mae Consumer Advocate. They do not tell you that you actually have a consumer advocate that is suppose to help you in the situation you actually found yourself in. I am sure they do not want you to know. The number is 18777704157. They are only open til 3pm PST I beleive

5. Never give them your bank account information. They actually burned me with this one twice. They ran payment when they were not suppose to. I made them reverse the transaction and pay the overdraft fees of my bank. I am also currently fighting for them to fix my credit since when I did have automated payments they were not drawing it at the end of the month when payments were due at the beginning.

6. Check your account online weekly, at least at the beginning. Good luck

My suggestion is that you call the consumer advocate and see if you do not qualify for loan forgiveness since you were the victim of fraud. You may not get your money back if you already paid so do that before you give these thieves any more money. Last, DO NOT give up on school. You had a bad experience. Dust yourself off, and next time avoid Sallie Me. You want to stick with Direct Loans - those are directly managed by fed government or seek a loan from your credit union or a Pell Loan.
