I found four charges of $15.95 each to my debit card near the sixteenth of each of the three previous months. In September, there were to charges and one credit to my card in the same amount. Since I use my debit card as cash, check and credit card, I have a lot of charges and am only notified if the amount is above $25.
I called my bank and reported fraud because I did not know the company, nor could I find any purchases or subscription confirmations for that company in any of my transactions. The bank was very cooperative and initiated a charge of fraud for each of the charges, and will give me temporary credit for the dsiputed amounts. The bank also instructed me to call the company (I had not realized that the number on my bank statement after the company name was the phone number).
I called and learned that the company had my phone number, a previous email address, and personal login information related to an account for me initiate in August 2007. Interestingly, my computer crashed in August of 2007 and I did not have access to the Internet again until November of 2007.
It appears that this company is associated with STAMPS.COM. I did not open such an account although I do recall visiting the STAMPS.COM website. I do not have a business and do not maill letters or packages, so I do not need STAMPS.COM. I did not initiate or authorize an account. The company representative told me that he would "close" my account ( "I" never had an account) and that they would not make additional charges to my card, but no credits would be applied. However, the company will cooperate with my bank during the fraud investigation.

How did they acquire your debit card #? You need to close out your account if you do not know otherwise you probably have some one who has gotten your card number. Identy theft can be a huge problem. You need to honestly keep track in a check register all your useage because you could be losing more money than you know. I write all my debits in my register just like a check.
