I took my car to Sears Auto Center to diagnose and repair a loud road noise.  After looking at my vehicle they suggested I have the brakes replaced including the rear brakes. I had a set of 4 tires placed on the car a year before by Sears and the mechanic pointed out they had uneaven wear. I said they where under warrenty and since Sear's had done the allignment that I should have them replaced at a discount. they said it wasn't their fault it was mine for not having them rotated every 5,000 miles. Ok Fine, I accepted responsabillity for the tires and bought 4 more and had the front brake roters and caliper hardware replaced.

This cost me  approx 750.00

The road noise was still present. Not wanting to go back to Sear's I worked on the car myself. When taking the tires off I noticed missing lug nuts (2) and immediatley noticed sound comming from the front left wheel bearing. a mechanic friend of mine said it was obvious and I had been scammed by Sear's Auto. Next I took off the rear tires and checked the rear brake shoes. THEY WHERE FINE! plenty of material for at least another year of driving.

My mechanic friend says since I replaced the the front brake pads a few months earlier I didn't need to have them replaced.

In total the unnessecary work cost me around 400.00

For:

new rotars

new caliper hardware

and labor.

I'm not even sure I needed the new tires.

In general they have a don't give a s**t attitude about customer service.

beware they will take advantage of you.

Sear's Auto is the scammer.

Me not being a mechanic expect a certain level of knowledge from proffessional mechanic and I'm better at it than them, I guess they might be extreamly poor at their job. I didn't attempt to scam anyone, how do you explain that statement?

My point is, I never needed any brake work done. they suggested it would be a good idea. The actual road noise was caused by a bad wheel bearing and a novis could figure that out. Another mechanic explained several common ways machine noise sources can be identified.

From your own post you started out by attempting to scam THEM. THEY give you a suggestion as to what the causes MAY be. Its called an opinion j******. And in THEIR PROFESSIONAL OPINION the noises you described required that type of fix.
