My son wanted to open a Sears account. So to help him out I co applied. They in turn made me primary lender with 3000.00 credit limit.
I kept cards from my son, only to find out he made purchase with his drivers license. I called to lower the credit limit to 300.00 dollars anly to find out he had charged up to 1,200.00.
I closed the account. I found out a few weeks later that Sears had opened the account back up to him, now charged 3,400.00.
I made it clerk that I wanted the account closed and not opened under no circumstances. Now they have they have taken the delinquent account to an attorney that has sued me without my knowledge for garnishment of wages.
Can they hold me accountable for any charge ran up after I closed the account.

this is why you don't open joint accounts

If your son couldn't open an account in his name then he should be paying cash. Your SON, not Sears is the rip off here.
You need to take your son to small claims court and go after him!

yes joint account

The answer is yes. In being a joint account you or him can reopen it at any given time. That is the bad part about joint accounts. It gives both of you the capabilities of being the primary opening and closing the account when you want and using it when you want. You need to speak with your son on this and try to advise him.
