My wife ordered a washing machine through an Employer Purchase Agreement between her employer and Sears. After washing 2 loads of clothes the electronics in the appliance shorted out and the lid lock would no longer work, therefore the wash cycles would no longer work as well. If you've ever taken a washing machine out of its box, you realize that there is virtually no way to remove the washer from the box without ripping up the box. Anyway, the machine is obviously defective and I wished to return the appliance. The purchase was performed totally over the phone, and I was not made aware of any restocking fees prior to the charge on my credit card. Only after the charge was made, I received an e-mail stating the return policy that included restocking fees. If we had been made aware of the restocking fees prior to the purchase, we would likely have purchased a different appliance from a more customer friendly store. Anyway, Sears insisted on sending out a repairman to fix the appliance. We refused. We did not purchase a 'repaired' appliance. We expect a new appliance to work. Sears refuses to take the item back without charging a 15% restocking fee, plus $35 pickup fee (which I offered to bring it back to the store and they refused), plus tax. Tax on what? I don't know but I'm getting charged about $10 tax on either the pickup fee or on the re-stocking fee. Why should I be out nearly $100 for buying an appliance that was defective? Have you ever tried to put negative feedback on the Sears website about an appliance? This web feature does not work. I guess thats a good way to make sure the negative comments will never be read.
