2) I am simply a consumer there and in time have seen the bids go way out of proportion... but if looking at it with a realistic, smart and more sane point of view... this site is the ONLY.. and I repeat the ONLY truly thrift focused, bidding site of its kind on the entire internet. So you are bidding on things with the entire planet who has net access as well as people like myself... seasoned vintage collectors, or out of their mind gamblers, people who have no idea or clue that they can find the exact same item for much much less on ebay or etsy in better condition, teenagers, drunks, psychos, idiots, lunatics (sic)... you name it. There is no control over the bidders like ebay where you are noted for doing a bad deal or not paying. These people come from all over the country to bid... think about how many people that is!!! hundreds of millions
So people bid bid bid and dont pay ALL of the time and then are allowed to bid next time. No surprise the bids go out of control.
If you REALLY research, watch and take care... you can find bargains... but hey, it is what it is... this is not a company like ebay who has hired top Platform Engineers to manage their product line and coordinate the sales, its a simple non profit thrift shop who has done amazingly well with something of which really they dont have a clue.
I have bid with them since they opened and spent far far more then 3k and have never EVER had a false charge. I have lost bids to ridiculously high bids then seen the item relisted and knew that by common sense the reason it was relisted was because the bidder could not, did not or would not pay the price they bid.
Is the shipping over priced? Yes... but it is stated up front clearly for all to see, so shame on you for bidding in the first place. They are little independent non profit stores, mostly run by recovering addicts... trying to be part of this site with no real direction or clue, but the prices are absolutely ALWAYS posted up front... so who is the idiot for bidding on it?
The system is flawed and not well controlled, the platform has security issues and when they tried to release a new platform the system was a mess that was screwed up for weeks. The shipping prices are inconsistent and the bids at times go outrageously out of control.
SO STOP BIDDING or using them... it is what it is... I scan ang watch for thing I wish to purchase, I bid a price I know is worth my time and I negotiate with them to combine shipping when I do win a bid. If it goes outrageously off course... I dont bid, if they wont combine shipping I dont pay.
Thats it really... but I guess that was a lot.
