SimpleFilings.com is a company that makes a profit off of misconceptions. They offer you a service that is actually free.(That's an issue, but that's not my issue in this case.) This company offers a service that deals with items that are important/Urgent. I personally just received an email from my new employer requesting my social security card as a verification of identity. So what did I do? I went straight to google and typed in, "Replacing my Social Security Card". Oh what do ya' know, SimpleFilings.com was the first link to pop up. It didn't pop up as SimpleFilings.com it popped up as Simpleflings.com/New-Card, so with the feeling of urgency taking control, I proceeded to fill out the forms and made the payment.
Ok let's pause there. I was clueless about the steps to obtaining a social security card, I had no clue this service was free. This site was my first source of information on the subject. I assumed there was a fee charged for getting a replacement social security card since there's a fee for replacing your license. This is an issue, like I said in the above paragraph, but this isn't my issue. My issue is that this company misleads you into thinking you are purchasing a product that will eventually result in you getting a card from this company. Not instructions on how&where to get a social security card from.
I assume that this company realizes that the people coming across their website are in a hurry and aren't cautious of reading the 'fine print'. That is how they got me!
Back to my personal experience, I looked at the file and still didn't realize that I only paid for the service of the "preparing my document". I read that I had to print and fill out some information, so I sent showed my mother. She immediately told me this was a scam and that I can get my card and these documents free from the government agency. So I called simplefindings.com and informed them I would like a refund because I no longer want their services. They issued me a partial refund. I looked over their terms for a partial refund and it said this was effective when they(the company) "completely prepares the documentation." I brought this up to the employee whom I was on the phone with, (she was very rude by the way).
She then recited the same terms I just read to her, back to me; saying that is why I am only being issued a partial refund. So then my question to her was what indicates a "completely prepared document". She couldn't define it for me, she got confused. (I guess that was above her level of comprehension.. pahhhh). So then I asked to speak with her manager, she ignored my request and replied by saying, "sir you have already been rendered our services..". I again asked to speak with her manager, she cut me off in mid-setence and blasted that ringback/hold tone in my ear as she transfered my call.
After 9 minutes of waiting on hold, her manager answered the phone. She told me that I was only issued a partial refund because it shows on her database that I opened the pdf. Which is the document they "prepared for me"/ filled out for me. Which is only the information I already filled out. So then my question to her was, "So you all fill these our personally, there's not an automated system that does this for you?" She said, "Yes we do, we do not use an automated system." I reiterated on my point by asking again more directly, "So you actually fill these out, they aren't automatically filled out by some software on your computer. She confirmed her original response but then she followed up by saying, "even if we did have an automated system don't you think we have to fund an IT support group?." So i'm still not sure if they actually do it themselves or have a software do it for them. But either way, what are they doing that's worth 50 dollars?
This is a huge scam, a 'LEGAL' scam. This company, in my opinion, has no morales. Avoid at all cost. They will probably leave a rebuttal saying they take my feedback to heart and will strive to improve.. yet there are complaints from two years ago on this same website with the same response. Save it.
