I was contacted by SKS Subscription through telemarketing with an offer of four free magazines and a renewal of my Sporting News subscription at a lower rate than what I had been paying.

I began receiving the 4 free magazines as promised, so at this time I didn't feel concerned. SKS sent billing statements for the renewal of my Sporting News subscription. I mailed two payments of $54.20 to SKS Subscription believing that my Sporting News subscription would be renewed.

In May I received notice from Sporting News that I had only a few issues left in my subscription. I then contacted Sporting News to let them know that I had renewed my subscription through SKS Subscription. I was informed that payment had not been received for the renewal and that there was never any contact made by SKS Subscription regarding my account.

I contacted SKS Subscription regarding this matter and spoke with a female rep by the name of Jody. I was told that the information regarding my account was on a disk that had somehow become damaged and was returned to SKS Subscription by Sporting News as being unreadable.

Jody then assured me that the information would be resubmitted before my subscription expired with Sporting News and that SKS would be happy to send me any issues of the magazine if the service was interrupted. I declined her offer as Sporting News had already agreed to extend my subscription for an additional month thinking as I did, that they would be receiving the necessary information to renew my subscription.

Obviousily SKS failed to carry through with this agreement. I have made several attempts to contact SKS but much to my dismay all phone numbers are no longer in working order or letters written to the company go unanswered.

I have since obtained information from sources on the Internet that included additional telephone numbers but unfortunately they are no longer working numbers or you receive a recording saying that you have reached a voice mail that is continually full which belongs to some individual who's name has been muted from the recording.

I guess my next step will be to contact my state Attorney General and report that I was involved in a magazine subscription scam.
