Smock never did return our money, but the Credit Card company did, and said they will go after him. He has since moved from the Olds, Iowa area and the last I knew he is living in Illinois City, Illinois. It is a shame this individual is still doing business, as he is a con artist. We hired him after he did some after hours work for a friend of mine and knew he was a techician for a reputable plumming business in our area. We recieved no help in resolving this issue from our Sheriff, BBB, a contractor licencing agency, and our lawyer said to proceed legally would likely cost more than the amount of his theft. The lawyer said we could file a suit in small claims court but the limit was less than our loss. Tom might be slick but I can keep up on him through his facebook account which he maintains. Someday, all this thievery will catch up to him. He is lower than low.

He is the run with your money type, no doubt. Same BS, different city. That is usually his plan. Monmouth, Davenport, Aledo, Monmouth, Bartonville, Burlington, and now it looks like Fairfield and Olds. Who knows where he is by now? Former employee of mine saw him at a gas station near Cedar Rapids over the summer and upon Tom seeing him, he went and hid behind the gas station. I was his boss back in 2008 at a hotel down in Davenport. He was a product of old management during new management takeover by the company I worked for. I saw the many things he'd done to run the place into the ground, although he blamed most of it on his former superiors. He had a wife & kids living on property, and out of the kindness of my heart I gave the guy another chance. Actually, I gave him multiple chances. He overstepped his boundaries several times. He was hired as Director of Maintenance. Being that he was the only other manager, I would designate him MOD during times when I would need to leave. Yes, stupid of me, because he was starting to act like everyone else's boss while I was on property. I even dismissed two sexual harassment complaints against him. Apparently, he was also telling employees that I'm gay as well because of my body figure and the way I walk. By the time I'd awakened and realized all the negative effects on my business were related to me having kept him on board, he'd already staged a plan to get rid of me. And the owner was clueless of the hotel business, so Tom with his "buddy buddy" attitude conned the owner into putting him in charge. I'd gone weeks without pay because the owner's supposed "renovation money" never made it to the hotel, and the hotel was so dilapidated that no one wanted to stay there. Meanwhile, Tom was telling the owner I'd stolen the money from the furniture sale, which by the way was a check from a motel down the street that I deposited directly into the account of the hotel. But the owner was too stupid to even look, because he drank the Smock Kool-Aid as well.

So 12/30/08 rolls around and I was told by the owner that the hotel would be closed for business and that Tom would stick around for Maintenance reasons, but that was it. Well, at that point, I brought other employees out the door with me, and that when I soon learned that they weren't closing the hotel. They staged all of that through a new management proposal by "Smock Property Management". Several of my employees went back and drank the Smock Kool-Aid as well only to find out within 1-2 months that this guy truly was a con artist, and that there really was no money, hence the 2009 complaint mentioned above. Moral of the story, this guy devotes his life to taking advantage of people. 

This fraudulent business still owes us money in spite of us having a lawyer involved. He shut down his web site and is now living in Olds, Iowa.

He still owes us money for goods and services NOT recieved for about 8 months or more now. He is ignoring me, & our lawyer. He refusws to give us back the money he took, then obviously spent.
