Southside Kia, Jacksonville, FL Finance Manager refused to cancel extended warranty and said I would have to pay for it and wait 8 weeks to get a refund even though I cancelled 2 days after the sale. When we refused to pay for it, they threatened to take our new car back & keep the money we paid and even blocked our car in at the dealership to prevent us from leaving and threatened to arrest us. jacksonville Florida

We purchased a new Kia Soul in November, 2013. Two days later, due to medical bills, I called the Finance Manager of the dealership and requested the extended warranty be cancelled. He was obviously not happy (I think the dealership gets a commission for every extended warranty they sell). Nothing was said about signing any paperwork to cancel the warranty and other than his attitude on the phone, we thought all was ok. I spoke with 2 other people at the dealership later that week and none of them acted like anything was wrong.
When we went in to finalize everything, we were told we would have to pay for the extended warranty and wait 8 weeks to get our refund. We declined to do that as we already called to cancel it and advised them we had not gotten any paperwork about the warranty and they still had time to cancel it. I was told we would have to take our trade in back and they would take back the new car. I was fine with that, as I did not like their attitude and was ready to take my business elsewhere. When I asked where my trade in was, I was taken into the finance manager's where the New Car Sales Manager came in and was very nasty. He told me he was keeping the money I had already paid toward the new car and I would take my trade in back. When I tried to leave and get some help, they blocked my car in the dealership and threatened to have me arrested. I went back in the dealership and the general manager, got involved then. He was very nasty as well and said I bought a new car from them and was stuck with it. He said to leave and everything was all good. When I asked him to put that in writing, he refused.
Approximately 2 weeks later, I got the warranty paperwork in the mail, so obviously they never had any intention of cancelling the warranty. I called the company and asked them to cancel it. I was told I would have to go back to the dealer, sign a cancellation form and the dealer would have to send it to them. I have sent emails every day since with no response from the dealer. Finally I called the warranty company back and advised the dealer would not answer my requests and refused to provide me with the necessary paperwork to cancel the warranty. I then had to send the warranty co. a letter with a copy of my contract and I hope they will contact the dealer to cancel.
Now the dealer has finally responded and said they will cancel the warranty but I have to pay for it first and wait for a refund. Right - I'm sure I will never, ever see that money if I pay it. The warranty paperwork says the longer it goes without cancelation the more money they retain.
In one of my emails, I advised the general manager, we wanted to settle this situation and would never bother them again. They are still demainding we pay for the warranty and wait for a refund.
It's unfortunate a dealer is willing to go these lengths to make a commission and lose a customer over this. They obviously have more money than the typical person and can pay for the warranty themselves, since they didn't cancel it as requested, and wait for the money to be refunded to them, but no, they want to hassle us.
I've filed a complaint with the corporate office of Kia, but found out each dealership is a owned like a franchise so all they can do is put a complaint in the file.
One last thing, the general manager also refused to let me speak with the owner of the franchise. I was told he doesn't get involved in the day to day business of the dealership. Wow! If my name was associated with the dealership, I would definately not want my name tarnished over this type of situation.
