I applied for a position on December 5th for an “Administrative Virtual Account/Bookkeeper Assistant in Boston, MA”. I then received a response email this past Monday, December 8th, from one their “human resources personnel” – ‘Debbie Goodall’, to acknowledge receipt of my resume to them & then to also set up an interview for the following day with another “person” – ‘Jessica Stewart’. She claims they are going to be sending me one of their laptops to use. She is also claiming they are going to be sending me a check to purchase some software & other materials that will be needed to perform my job and I am to contact them once I receive this check. *this was my first red flag that went up.* I have received the check today, December 11, by post mail around 11: 30 AM.
*So now I’m wondering if this might be some sort of scam I’ve been reading about. Such as, when you cash, or deposit the check to your bank account they will shortly after have information regarding your bank account (bank routing & acct number). I have since opened a new bank account in town as I was VERY leery about this whole situation. This was to insure that I would not get myself into a situation of check fraud. -- I did not deposit the check to my account as I needed to inform the bank of the situation.- I have since contacted the bank regarding this "check" & sure enough -- the check is 100% bogus!
There was a tracking number on the mailing label, so I looked it up on usps.com. This DID NOT come from Teaneck NJ. The pick-up address was from Manchester NH! So this is really hinky now.
