Staples has an ink cartridge return program wherein you can return 10 cartridges and get credit for $20 after 30 days had elapsed. I turned in my 10 artridges on 22 August and went to the store on 24 Sept to use my credit to buy some pens. I was informed that I could only use the credit to buy ink toner and I had to buy $30 worth to take advantage of the $20 credit.
When I turned in the cartridges nothing was mentioned about the credit being restricted to ink toner.
My advice is not to give your cartridges to Staples.
This is the third time I've been burned by Staples because of unclear instructions or information. It's my fault for letting it happen the third time but it won't happen again.

This is not a scam. You get $2 back in rewards for each empty cartridge you recycle with staples. This comes to you in the form of coupon that you can use on anything in store with some exceptions. You must also have purchased $30 worth of ink within 180 days of recycling said ink. This is so customers don't abuse cheap online ink and never even buy anything at staples stores. Lack of knowledge on store policies does not equal scam. You were just going to throw the empty cartridge away anyway.
