On June 23rd, 2016 I brought my 2003 Ford E150 cargo van to STS Tire & Auto in Bergenfield New Jersey.  The van needed brakes, was not aligned properly, there was a rubbing sound coming from the front tires, steering was off and the two front tires were badly worn on the sides.  The following day I called to follow up and the manager told me I needed two tires, brakes (rotors and pads), shocks, a drag/center link and a new battery.  I mentioned that I had not had problems with starting the van and was told that the tests they ran showed that the battery was bad.  I told him to go ahead with the work as long as the van would be in good driving condition.   On June 25th I was told the van was ready.  I paid $1466.36 in cash.  As I drove out of the parking lot one of my hubcaps fell off, rolled across the street and was run over by a passing vehicle.  As I proceeded down the street I could immediately tell that the van was not fixed.  It felt no better than when I brought it in two days prior.  I immediately brought the van back.  After a few days I called to check on the van and was told that the mechanic had not mentioned that it needed calipers and the parts were on order.  A couple of days later I again called to check on the van since no one from STS seems to follow up at all with their customers.  I was told the van was ready and picked it up.  It seemed a bit better then it had been and although not happy I thought perhaps this was as good as a 2003 van would get.

A few days later I brought the van to be inspected by the NJ DMV.  It failed for some computer codes unrelated to the work performed by STS.  On my way home from inspection it suddenly felt as though a tire had gone flat.  It was difficulty to control the van and keep it from veering left and right on its own.  I was not far from home so I made it to my driveway.  I called to inform STS I would be bringing it back as soon as I had someone to follow me and drive me home.  The following day I returned the van to STS.  A few days later I called to check on the van and was told that the drag/center link they installed was defective and they had ordered another.  After a few more days I picked the van up. It again was not perfect but better.

Later that week a friend of mine was helping me install a back up alarm.  He noticed my air conditioning didn't work and offered to add coolant that he had.  As he was adding the coolant and we were talking I noticed the battery had a lot of dirt on it and went to wipe it off.  Then i realized that it shouldn't have any dirt on it since it was supposed to have been replaced a few weeks ago.  I looked closer and saw that the cables did not appear to have been removed recently and the battery was from Advance Auto.  I had been charged and paid for a battery and labor that I did not receive.  I went back to STS and spoke with the new manager, Jason.  I was now questioning what else I paid for that was not done.  He told me to bring the van in and he would look at it.  He said he would give me a refund for the battery and see if everything else checked out.  I asked if he wanted to take a look right then and he said no that he believed me.  I was also led to believe that the previous managers I had been dealing with had been terminated for some shady doings.  I needed the van for work and was unable to bring it in until the following week.

In the meantime I noticed that the rubbing sound from the front tires was coming back.  Not yet as bad as before but noticeable.  On Tuesday 8/9/16 I stopped into STS on my way home and asked Jason if he would be in on Wednesday and I would drop the van off then.  He said I should bring it in on Thursday since he was off Wednesday.  Wednesday night I had to travel to Lake Hopatcong, NJ.  As I got to my destination it again suddenly felt as though the tire had gone flat and it was difficult to control the steering.  I tried to drive home but it was too risky on route 80 so I got off the highway and parked in a lot in Parsippany.  As I did not want to pay to have the van towed to Bergenfield I left the van there and had a relative pick me up.  Thursday I went to STS and told Jason what happened.  We agreed that I would have the van towed to the STS in Parsippany and they would fix it there as it was under warranty.  I asked if he could give me the refund for the battery now.  He said that wouldn't be a problem but had to make a phone call first.  Just a technicality. When he was done with the call he told me his regional manager wanted him to take a picture of the battery and send it to him and human resources first.  Since he was in Bergenfield and the van was in Parsippany that was going to be difficult.  I was now very annoyed.  I had a wedding to attend on Friday so I had the van towed to Parsippany on Saturday.   Not hearing from anyone, on Tuesday I called and spoke with STS in Parsippany and was told by Chris that the Bergenfield store was ordering the parts and arranging to have it fixed.  I questioned if the van was being towed to Bergenfield or how that would work and when it would be done.  I was told to call Bergenfield.  I did and spoke with Jason who seemed to have no idea what I was talking about.  He said he would call the Parsippany store.  I asked him to call me when he knew what was happening and made sure he had my phone number.  He never called.

On Thursday, having not heard from Jason, I went to the Bergenfield store.  Carlos told me Jason had an emergency and left for the day.  He said he would contact Parsippany and if the parts (I still have no idea what parts) hadn't been ordered that he would take care of it.  I told him I wanted a phone call by Friday morning to let me know exactly what was happening, where, and when my van would be fixed.  I told him that if the van could not be fixed to let me know and that would be perfectly fine with me but I expected a full refund.  I also informed him that since it was now nearly two months since I first brought it to STS my patience was now gone.  If I did not get a call I would be filing a lawsuit against STS for a full refund.  It is now Saturday August 20th.  I still have not received a call.

I sent a complaint to the customer service department via their website.  As of now I intend to file a lawsuit and have the matter settled in court.  I will update the complaint as needed.
