Several years ago, I had a run-in with an employee of Suburban Lock and Key. The employee became belligerent, hostile, and threatening, almost to the point of physically assaulting me. I called their corporate office, and the owner of the company, a Mr. Kroll promptly called me back. What happened after that was nothing short of bizarre and unnerving. Mr. Kroll (or Krull) proceeded to call me a liar, said that his employee had done nothing wrong, and then hung up on me.

On February 5, 2014, Suburban Lock and Key made the local news. A local SPCA agent had found a stray kitten with a handcuff attached around it's neck. The handcuff was unable to removed with a conventional handcuff key, so the agent took the cat to the nearest locksmith, which was Suburban Lock and Key at 3122 Delaware Ave, Kenmore, NY. The locksmith provided a key to remove the lock, but only after charging the SPCA a $25 fee. I recognize that businesses must make a profit to remain viable, but to charge a non-profit agency $25 for something that took less than 2 minutes is despicable. There is no way for this business to make the situation "right." Their reputation for overcharging is well-known in the surrounding community, and this incident reinforces the fact that they are greedy, uncaring and unethical. Its called business...

AUTHOR: Tyg - ()

POSTED: Thursday, February 06, 2014

Its called business and NOT a charity. Im sure cheapskates like yourself would love if everything FOR YOU was free. But it is a business and if they had to charge a $25.00 fee then thats what they have to charge. What amazes me is the SHEER STUPIDITY of all parties involved with that kitten. Did ANYONE think to just call the police. You know, the people that USE handcuffs?? They would have done it for free.

Besides all that, it IS a business and as such in order to STAY in business they have to charge. Why is it ok for people like you to make a profit but others are not allowed to do so? Do YOU not work for a living? After YOUR bills and expenses what you have left over is YOUR PROFIT. Why is it so wrong for a business to make a profit? When you have money left over after paying your bills you dont see other people bi+ching and crying because YOU made a profit from YOUR hard work.

SOunds to me that youre just one of those people who cant be made happy. No matter how far anyone goes for you, you are never satisfied. Maybe direct your energy towards some more productive goals. I find your opening statment to be very much an exageration. We cannot take your recolection from "several" years ago as a true statment of fact. That was YOUR impression. Im betting they charged you a lot of money for something to be unlocked and it only took them 5-10 mins. But you got charged the regular amount and YOU were not happy. Im betting you thought you could just slip the locksmith a couple of bucks for their time but became a jack@ss once you realized that you were going to have to pay for the service.

You CLAIM they became beligerant, hostle, and rude. These are all just BUZZWORDS. YOU use these to paint that person in a unfavorable light. But those of us that voleenter here KNOW the truth. Truth is YOU became beligerant and hostile when they told you the price you had to pay. You claim "rude", let me tell you this much. RUDE is just consumer speak for "They did not give me my way". Your story is transparent and obvious. Instead of wasting your life away complaining, maybe YOU should open up your own locksmith services.

And when after oh about 20 calls where the customer wants to be a cheapskate or a deadbeat, you MAY have some understanding of what they have to deal with. People like locksmiths, AC repair men, contractors have to go to school for this knowledge. WHo are YOU to tell them what is acceptable to charge? YOU did not go to school for it. YOU have a situation and ONLY a person with the correct skills can help you. Why shouldnt you pay??

You sound like one of those people who thinks THEY are the only REAL people in the world. Thats CLASSIC sociopathic behavior. You should get that looked at.
