Through Amazon.com, Sunset Electronics sold a Panasonic FZ-100 as "new". This camera did not work. After contacting Sunset Electronics, they told me, "Your camera is in fact sericed under the terms of the manufacturer's warranty for a duration of a year. Arranging for an in warranty repair is very simple and it can be done via the manufacturer's website."
I called the Panasonic Warranty center. Whey I told them the serial # of the camera they informed me that they haven't made this model camera for over 5 years and there is no warranty. I told them I had just bought the camera and I was told I had a one yr warranty. They told me to send them the camera with a copy of my receipt, which I did. The camera was returned to me, unfixed, with the following note:
"We received your non-U.S. market Panasonic product for processing. Your product is being returned to you, as is because the product was not marketed for sale of service in the U.S. and, therefore, cannot be serviced here."
Sunset Electronics sold me a 5 yr old camera as new. Sunset Electronics promised me a 1 yr. warranty that does not exist. Sunset Electronics will not refund my money. Sunset Electronics now wants me to return the camera so they can send me another 5 yr old camera with no warranty.
I am out $350 dollars, plus $11 to send it to Panasonic to be fixed, only to have it returned to me with the following stamp:
"OBSOLETE MODEL - OUT OF WARRANTY"

misdirected anger...perhaps less caffeine?

This 'consumer' is angry about something that has absolutely nothing to do with this complaint. This 'consumer' has no stake in this complaint, nor are they out $360.
I bought the camera on-line from Sunset Electronics through Amazon in a good faith transaction. Had the product worked there wouldn't be any problem. Had there actually been a Warranty that Sunset Electronics claimed was available in their listing, there wouldn't be any problem. But ... the camera doesn't work, and there is no warranty (as promised). Neither of those conditions are the consumers fault. Sunset Electronics promised me something that did not exist.
The listing stated that this camera had a 1 year warranty, I took this company at it's word. Why would I question that? There is no warranty due to the camera being an "Obsolete-Model" so it is "Out of Warranty". That is on Sunset Electronic for selling me a camera that was too old to have the warranty they promised. It is unreasonable to expect the consumer to call the company to make sure the product in the listing is not obsolete, and indeed covered by the promised warranty. Sunset Electronic told me there was a warranty...in the listing AND in an email after I informed them the camera did not work. Twice they promised me a warranty. There is no warranty.
Also, the response from Panasonic stating that this is a "non-US market Panasonic product" and "not marketed for sale or service in the US" tells me there is more to this story than meets the eye. :/ Clearly someone doesn't want me to continue to complain about this or draw attention to what happened here.

A bit of confusion...

I feel there is a bit of confusion on YOUR part. See if it was UNOPENED and still sealed in plastic, it IS new. What YOU are quibbling about is the AGE of the product. While unfortunate for YOU it IS a new product just not a NEWER model. THAT IS NOT THIER FAULT!!!! YOU seek to slander THEM because its older then YOU ASSUMED!!! THEY cannot be held liable in ANY WAY for YOUR assumptions. It was on YOU to do the research on the make and model BEFORE you purchased it. YOU would have known that despite being sealed in plastic and unopened that the camera was an older model. Take SOME responsiblity for YOUR screw up. YOU ASSUMED!!! When YOU assume you do so at your own risk. As with ALL online shopping YOU do NOT get to hold or examine the item, YOU bought a picture and stats. I would suggest that YOU stay far away from online shopping and shop LOCALLY!!!! Yes the price SEEMS cheaper at first, but think about the damage YOU are doing to your own community by shopping online. The loss of jobs, the loss of incomes. By shopping online YOU PERSONALLY are responsible for the DEATH of brick and mortar stores. With each purchase you kill off someones JOB!!!! One wonders how quickly YOU would go postal if YOUR job was taken away from YOU because of too much online purchases killing YOUR business.
