Out of all the banks I have patronized over the years, SunTrust is by far the worst!!!  I take time to prudently record purchases and deposits in my ledger only to be hit with numerous overdrafts/fee.

While, I don't expect purchases to be immediately deducted from my balance, funds in my account should be "put to the side" to cover the expense.  When I spoke to a SunTrust representative about this, I got lame excuses and the blame was placed on the merchants.

I've never experienced this ordeal with any other bank and I am very pissed and disappointed with this bank.  As a college student, I don't have tons of money for the bank to gobble up!  I had to make a deposit to return my account to good standing. If I did not have upcoming deposits, I would have close the account today!!!

I guess I really shouldn't be surprised being this is the same bank that had an account holder in Atlanta overdrawn due to spending $2 million dollars when she never had such an amount in her account....

- You are right..they should be.  But if you are keeping "prudent" records of ALL of your deposits and withdraws, they already are being "put to the side" because you have put them down in your written register when you make them.

So either your idea or "recording" your transactions don't actually involve putting them down into a written register the moment you make them, you are not giving the deposits enough time to actually post, or let's just say you are not a math major.  All are easily fixable.  First either make it a standard practice to write down your transactions EVERY time you make a purchase, you need to check the bank's funds availability policy, or purchase a calculator to carry around with you.

It is NOT the responsibility of the bank to monitor your accounts and believe this or not they are not mind readers.  There are times that due to one of many reasons beyond the control of the bank that the bank will not get the debit until a later time.  A good example of this is that is with the Pay at the Pump Gas Stations.  Depending on how you run the card, the station may only authorize $1.  But if you pump $40 in gas, the bank won't know this until the station posts the full amount which could be as much as 1-3(or more) days later.

The interesting thing that you are only a college student(talking about age not achievement) and already have had multiple banks?  Why do you keep changing?  If they were that great why didn't you just stay with them?  My guess is that the answer would be very interesting.  If the reason is distance, then with the Internet there is really no reason you need to change banks because it doesn't matter if you are across the street or on the other side of the world, you have the same access.
