A company that I never had any contact with deposited $300.00  in my Suntrust  checking account. I withdrew the money to find out who had my personal information. I did not recieve any information from Feb 8 2013 to March 7 2013. I alerted the fraud dept. and my claim was denied because I withdrew the money. I was told by a branch asscociate that ther would not be any activity in my account allowed as of Feb 28 2013. On March 1 2013 Dollar Flash tried to withdraw money fom my account it was returned unpaid resulting in a $ 36.00 bank charge. Suntrust has sent back items totaling $ 142.00 expecting me to be responsible. Suntrust has refused to close the account and have repeatedly referred to the $300.00 withdrawal which at this point in time is none of their business. They are just practicing financial masturbation. I am a disabled Veteran and cannot afford this rediculous stupidity. I would definitly recommend that all Veterans never use Suntrust Bank for anything. I have had a Suntrust account nine years and have never been overdrawn and never had any kind of issue with them until now. They speak to me as if I committed a crime. I will never pay Suntrust their banking fees and will never do business with them ever.

Some things to consider...

AUTHOR: Striderq - (U.S.A.)

1)Your military status has no bearing on this situation, except as a ploy for sympathy.

2) Were the items returned unpaid your legitimate transactions? If so then you are responsible for making sure money was available to pay them. When SunTrust told you no further transactions would go through you should have contacted all businesses that you had recurring payments with and stop them. If the transactions were legitimate, the fees are legitimate.

3) Since the amount owed is $300, SunTrust will report you to Chex Systems. This will cause other banks to refuse to open an account for you. If you already have another account, most banks do periodic checks and will bring the debt to SunTrust to your attention to be paid or they will close your account with them.

4) You claim SunTrust committed 2 acts of fraud. But the only illegal activity you have admitted to is your theft of $300.

You're lucky they're not taking it further

AUTHOR: IrishFutbol - (United States of America)

1. You had money deposited in your account that wasn't yours.
2. You knew it wasn't yours, and you confirmed this by emailing SunTrust
3. You withdrew the money anyway.

What you have just done is technically and legally considered theft, and were the amount larger than $300, SunTrust probably would have involved the police.  H**l, all they have to do is send the cops the email you sent, and evidence of the withdraw, and it's an open shut case.

And how exactly does withdrawing money allow you to figure out why it's there?  Why would you not just leave the money there as you knew it wasn't yours?

I Thought

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

It's a sad day the thought of a Veteran having some honor must be long gone.

Seriously, where in your military training and service did anyone ever tell you to go ahead and just take money that wasn't yours?   But not only that...after you do that complain that someone else is at fault and you shouldn't be held liable.  I have a feeling if you tried a stunt like this while you were on active duty you would have had your living quarters moved to the base brig.

You know here is a piece of advise for the future.  Instead of withdrawing the money to figure out who gave it to you why don't you do something revolutionary and actually contact the bank and ask them.  You also need to immediatly apologize to everyone in the military for trying to pull this "disabled veteran" card.

Oh Please....

AUTHOR: Jim - (USA)

You admitted there was a $300 deposit INTO your account.  You further admitted you were NOT entitled to this money and this money WAS NOT yours.  Then you use this BOGUS EXCUSE that you withdrew it to see who deposited it!  How STUPID do you think we are here?  If that was not your money..........WHICH YOU ADMITTED..........you had no right to it but YOU took the money anyway.  Now you use this disabled veteran card as some feeble excuse to justify your actions.
