Michael Orand goes to church with my sister and brother-in-law.  They asked him to do some minor remodeling of their guest bathroom to make it more accessible for our elderly parents.  He proposed $3265.00 to remove and replace the tub/shower unit and install a shower unit with fold down seat and handrails.  We signed the contract on May 31, 2011 and gave him a total of $2300.00 to purchase the necessary items.  In late July we finally got him to remove the old shower unit in preparation for intalling the new one which he had promised to do 3 times previously.

 He  is very difficult to reach by phone, you can only leave a voice mail message on his cell.  He waits until all hours of the night to return calls when he knows that you will not answer.  He stood us up 6 different times telling us he would be there to do work, then either not showing up or sending a text telling us he wuold not be there.

As I became more concerned I did a little research.  I found one complaint on this website that said he was using a false license number.  He is listed with an "F" rating with the Better Business Bureau.  When I searched tn.gov for the license number that he had given us on his paperwork, it came back to a different contractor and had not been renewed since 1991.  The number he gave us is differnt from the one on this site from a couple of years ago.  He is currently using Lic # 0029501.  I have emailed him outlining my concerns which he only half responded to.  I sent him an additional email (this is the only form of communication he has ever responded to) telling him that we wanted to cancel the remainder of the contract and asking for a partial refund since he had not ever purchased anything for our project.  He refuses to respond to that email despite my receiving a read receipt.

I have filed a report with the Department of Commerce and Insurance in Tennessee and am awaiting a response from them.  It is a laborious process, but please, if you have had a bad experience with this person, do the follow-up to put him out of business.  Otherwise he just keeps gettng away with it.  This occurred in Nashville, TN although my address is in Colorado.
