6 months ago my husband and i switched our service from verizon to t mobile. We, like many others, switched with the understanding that tmobile would pay off our etf fees. What we didn't know was that it would take 8 months before our REIMBURSMENT ( not a direct pay off as they make it seem) would process and then an additional 3 weeks to actually receive it in the mail, but at the time we batam service they royally screwed us. Basically to see the etf you have to have a number that you switch over to tmobile from another carrier and an etf breakdown. Seems simple enough. Except when we got our new phones activated tmobile changed my husbands phone number   We had not asked for this and we're reassured that this would not affect our reimbursement. Only now, 6 months later, did we find out that they are refusing to pay us the etf on my husbands phone because of the phone number change. So because of their error, we are left holding the bag for the etf fees that we didn't expect to have to pay. This is a scam. I know it's in the fine print somewhere tgat it will take do long, but they certainly don't sell it that way. And I have never seen a company screw up so badly and then blame the customer

ETF...

AUTHOR: Tyg - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, July 15, 2014

So you jumped ship with Verizon. So what THAT tells me is that YOU had an account with Verizon that was OUTSTANDING when YOU changed to Tmobile. This means that they held onto your husbands number until they got paid. A very common tactic. Probably because your husband was the main number on the account. While yes its upsetting, you STILL signed a contract with Verizon and they wouldn't release the number if you owed that much in ETF. As for Tmobile.....come on now.

As an adult even YOU MUST KNOW that EVERYTHING comes with addendums and stipulations and what YOU see on TV may not be the whole story. As the fine print explaining how it all works literally flashes by in like two seconds, it takes a DVR type setup to read the fine print on the TV. What this means for you is that since the number WAS NEVER ported they CANNOT offer you the ETF bonus. While it IS upsetting, it IS in the contract that YOU signed with Tmobile. And make no mistake, you DID sign a contract. There is ALWAYS some way the carriers use to protect themselves from the average consumer. Currently your service is tied up with your cellphone payment. Im sure if you read the paperwork given to you, you will find that Tmobile pretty much has all of the power. All YOU get to do is what THEY let you do. To answer your implied question....The reason they don't give YOU cash/check to pay off your ETF is because the consumer will do ANYTHING they can to get ahead and screw a giant corporation out of some money is a common tactic. I will give you an example. Lets say YOU jumped ship from Sprint to Tmobile.

Lets say that the Sprint ETF is the max for the sake of this example. Lets also assume that the person has ONLY had the service for say a full month. Now Sprint MAY waive all accociated fees but may have sent the customer a bill. If Tmobile were to just had over a check for the amount of the ETF they could potentially be losing MILLIONS all due to the chicanery of the consumer. So the consumer would get a nice fat stack of cash from Tmobile under the impression that its being used to pay SPrints ETF. In order to keep the consumer from profiting off of a promotion, they give you a CREDIT on your Tmobile bill that is equal to what you would have had to pay the original carrier. This way EVERYBODY is getting what the deserve. Tmobile gets a new customer, the customer gets to go to another service, and the original service provider gets paid for the breaking of the contract that the consumer does in order to go to Tmobile. While your situation is upsetting for you, its NOT illegal and it IS in the paperwork you agreed to. What should concern YOU is that THEY look at YOU as nothing but a scammer looking to scam. They no longer have faith in what the consumer says. If youre a customer THEY look at you as nothing but a thief that hasn't been caught yet. This SHOULD upset EVERY red blooded American who reads it. WE have so screwed with THEM that THEY do this to us all.

Its OUR behavior and OUR choices that has lead to what we have to deal with today. The only way this is ever going to change is if the mind set of the consumer changes. However I really don't see that happening because the human being is a stupid creature that refuses to learn or change. The STINK of self-entitlement has choked out their common sense. Until WE as consumers change the way WE do things, nothing is going to change for the positive for US!!! In fact its ONLY going to get much worse.

If we wanted a working phone then yes forced

You're clearly either a pedantiphile who gets off on correcting semantics or you work for t mobile, so allow me to break it down for you:

we did not want our phone numbers changed because we did I fact read the paperwork

when we activated our new phones with tmobile, my husbands phone number had changed

when we called the store to fix it because we wanted the etf to work the salesman said: "if you want your new phone to work it's gonna have to be with this new number. Don't worry about the etf fee though, since it was due to a tmobile error, you will still get your reimbursement."

and what do you know? Now that's the exact reason we can't get it   So, yes, I admit "forced" is a little strong. Get over yourself! My point is we got screwed

How did they force you?

Did they hold a gun to your head?? Did they hold you hostage?? I am betting that you did not read the paperwork or listen to the sales rep about this.  When I went to upgrade my phone at Sprint I understood everything the rep as well as the 1-800 customer service individual told me and I chose to decline.  So what is it?
