* I most certainly read your missive and responses, and can assure you that I am well aware of how Demodex canis is transferred from one dog to another. (Your missive reads as if it is something that is passed at birth; it is not. D. canis is transferred via prolonged contact between one dog and another, meaning it's most commonly transferred during nursing. Ask somebody if you don't believe, and be big enough to come back and admit you're wrong if you do.)

* I'm not concerned with the age of the pup; it's a small breed anyway and dipping typically isn't recommended for demodectic mange. There's only one dip I know of that anyone would even consider using for it, and it's not recommended at all for toy dogs or puppies - especially toy-breed puppies. That's why I asked what the name of the treatment used was, and I'm still waiting for an answer. Hopefully, you'll mix that into your next reply amid all the tries at snark.

* Without the names of the vets that told you dipping was necessary, or the name of the dip used, it's hard to believe fraud occurred. You've offered very little in the way of details, and in the United States burden of proof of a crime falls upon the accuser.

And this is going to be tough to say, since I absolutely despise the pet breeding industry, but... it's starting to sound like the puppy miller is better at taking care of pets than you are, if you're going to freak out about a very common condition and toss a toy-breed puppy into MULTIPLE dippings.

Reply however you like, "Dezzi", but unless it's got more details and confirmable information then I just don't believe your side of the story in this particular instance, regardless of what may have happened with anyone else. Just because you BELIEVE you were wronged doesn't mean you WERE wronged.

The difference is proof.

If you read correctly you would see that I posted: "From parasites passed through the mother that then leads to mange. I took her to another vet in town and they told me the SAME thing. It is

passed through parasites through the MOTHER." I'm very aware HOW it is passed. I'm also aware of the dosage for the ivermectin, thus WHY I did not buy it and do it myself. The pup wasn't 8weeks when dipped she was 5 months old. I got the pup when she was 3-1/2 months. Like I've said over and over again. I'm reporting a fraud of a kennel. Whom I keep reading about a lot on this site. I'm warning people that this breeder obviously is in it for the money and not taking time to make sure her animals are well taken care of.

THREE vets told you that you needed to dip a Chihuahua puppy because it had demodesis so bad that it was a "severe threat" to the dog's life?

* What are the names of these vets?

* Which vet ultimately performed the treatment?

* What was the name of the "dip" they used, and what was the name of the medication administered? (This should be found on your receipt.)

I understand that you're mad, "Dezzi", but a lot of stuff in this particular instance isn't adding up. That's why I'm asking the questions - to clarify the information and get the whole picture. Feel free to answer them if you like, but absent any further information I just can't believe this as presented. No offense; it just is what it is.

They dipped the pup 4 times. 7 times I had to take her to the vet. $420 was costs of the dip and other fee's. Excuse me. I made a typo error as to being mad when I wrote this. I talked to 3 different vets that told me dipping the pup and giving her a very small oral dose of medicine they provided would be cured. The pup is now cured & that's all that matters. She'll never have to worry about that mess anymore. It wasn't a soaking dip. I sat with her and waiting till it dried. Luckily the mange the pup had wasn't the contagious kind. Thank goodness. I would never go through with something if it was a severe threat to my baby if different vets didn't suggest it. Thank you for your comments but, the main concern here is a puppy kennel selling sick babies. I keep reading many reports of this kennel.

1) From the report you post, it looks like your dog had demodectic mange. It's contagious only during suckling from mother to pup and is caused by Demodex canis, a parasitic mite.

Demodex canis isn't something pups are "born with"; they generally only catch it from their mother during suckling and usually shake it themselves. Chihuahuas are one of the breeds that are suspected to be more susceptible to demodicosis (the type of mange caused by this parasite - the other kind is called sarcoptic mange), so this isn't a shocker to hear.

2) Who the HELL is your vet, so I know to avoid them?! I do not know a SINGLE responsible veterinarian that would recommend dipping a puppy - ESPECIALLY a toy-breed pup! The previous poster was right; that stuff can do a fair amount of damage. Recommended treatment is usually nothing more than medicated rinses/shampoos, or ivermectin treatments properly administered by a vet.

3) Which reminds me - if the business owner did in fact tell you to go buy the "stuff" she uses from the feed store, she's probably telling you to get ivermectin. DO NOT EVER TRY TO ADMINISTER IVERMECTIN BY YOURSELF. Especially to a toy breed. (Farmers reading this: This missive obviously doesn't apply to you, since most of you are smart enough to know how to use the chemical.)

But what I AM happy to see is that you've apparently learned your lesson about buying from a breeder. That much is welcome news, and I hope your next rescue is a little less stressful.

But for the love of all that's holy, get yourself a better vet. I'd really like to know the names of the two vets that you say advised dipping your toy pup for an easily-treatable ailment.

A very dilute dose of Ivermectin given once a week for a couple weeks would have been far safer but only if measured exactly right by a Veterinarian.I can't believe the puppy survived 7 dips. I would be very concerned over the condition of your puppy's liver. I have head of puppies dying from just one dip for mange. I would never dip a puppy. There are far safer ways to handle this annoying but not life threatening condition.
