i recently took a cruise with carnival cruise lines on cruise ship Valor.december 18th-december 24th.hile on my cruise i attended a tanzanite and diamond seminar where carnival cruise lines promotes diamonds international aka tanzanite international and reassured all cruisers that if they had any problems that carnival cruise lines will stand behind them..so earning so much trust by some of us cruisers we arrived in georgetown, grand cayman on december 21st 2011.. i purchased what was represented to me as a 1 carat cushion cut tanzanite with .30 carats in diamonds set in white gold for 699.00.

when i left the store i went with my friends to a local restaurant around the corner for lunch..during my lunch i pulled the ring out to show my friends.thats when my friend brought to my attention when she saw on the appraisal from TI/DI that the carat and gold had a line drawn through it and sterling silver had been written in.i have never bought sterling silver for my private collection nor would i ever have paid 699.00 for any piece of sterling silver.

i immediately took the ring back to TI and the woman refused to refund my money and she stated to me"you knew what you were purchasing"and pushed the item back to me and said you will have to take it up with headquarters in new york.knowing i had to get to my ship in30 min she was aware i couldnt stand and argue with her.

upon my return to the U.S. i contacted TI/DI in new york and they have refused to refund my money and the best they could offer was a store credit.i explained to them i did not want a store credit. if they were misrepresenting their products why would i want anything else from them??i bought a ring that i was told it was white gold and only an hour later discovered that the sales associate that filled out the appraisal had written in sterling silver and scratched through carats & gold and a store that wouldnt refund your money an hour after purchase for what was misrepresented by one sales associate was a store i would never do business with again.

i wrote TI/DI a 2 page letter and enclosed it with the ring that i had purchased and when i asked TI for their address in new york the woman states "if you do not have an authorization claim number for a rturn your package will be returned to you.

i insured the package for 700.00 and sent certified mail to the address 38 west 48th street new york new york.i informed master card that i want this charge removed and that the item was returned via mail.. i have not received a credit back on my master card nor have i heard anything from TI/DI

Carnivals response

AUTHOR: kimberly meyer - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, January 09, 2012

Carnival cruise lines has never responded and I had the ring insured before sending it back via USPS.also I filed complaint with the BBB.wow! Was I surprised when I learned DI/TI has had 79 complaints in the past 3 years and I believe that just over 50 of them were filed in the past year. II don't care about the ring .i do however care about how they treat consumers, not just myself but all the other consumers that shop at DI/TI. As a business owner myself I should have known better when I was headed for my ship and when they told me they wouldn't refund my money an hour later because they knew I didn't have time to stand & argue with them otherwise I would miss my ship I should have left the ring there in the store and headed for my ship then upon returning to the states I could let MasterCard know I didn't have the merchandise and had my credit back. If needed my attorney is willing to go forward if this issue isn't resolved and I'm willing to spend a whole lot more than what I paid for the ring just due to principle. Business owners can not be allowed to treat consumers this way.it obviously has gone on for too long.for reasons like people just don't have time to fight them, they don't know where to begin to fight or don't have the money to fight them or all of the above or for numerous other reasons. But they sold that ring to a business owner with misrepresentation and I do know my rights and I will fight them until I have exhausted every resource possible.

Wait.  So now you are not only getting refunded, but you don't even have the ring anymore?  I sympathize with your problem, but you should not have sent that ring back just yet.

Perhaps I missed it, but what did Carnival say about all this?  You said they guarantee TI.  What was their response?
