My car (along with many other residents), was towed from the apartment complex without a phone call’s notice, due to an “expired plate tag”. I contacted the manager, who stated it was in our lease for them to tow for any reason they deem necessary, so long as 24 hour notice is provided. In our lease, it does not explicity state that at all. In fact, she was unable to provide where exactly it was written in the lease, nor could she provide an appropriate statue that empowered her to have my vehicle towed due to an "expired tag".

I was shocked yesterday to learn that my car was taken from me without notice and am posting this to inform the Tampa Bay community to keep an eye out for this type of resident abuse.

This is absolutely awful business practive for them to tow the car of a resident without giving me the decency of a phone call warning OR at least an email to our apartment community, saying if your car is on our "tow list" we will be towing this week. Nothing.

Clearly, this community places a tow truck contract above it's residents of two years. I hope this post helps bring awareness to the community about the unjust and unethical standards the Tapetry at Citrus Park management has provided to it's residents.

Still Illegal

AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 22, 2016

Even if you "forget" to put the tag on your plate, it is still illegal.  I can tell you from experience as I have been with someone who was pulled over...and got a nice ticket from their lovely local law enforcement for not having the sticker on the plate.  Ironically enough it was still in their glove box but that didn't matter.

But if you are still claiming that there is nothing in the lease or around the complex about vehicles that are not legal, then take both the tow company and your complex to small claims court.  Accoridng to you it would be a "slam dunk" right?

It's Not Their Concern

There’s no signage or anything in the lease to say that an expired tag would be hauled away, just vehicles that are unauthorized.

Also, they’re arbitrarily just saying take the car out because it has an expired tag. They don’t have the proper equipment to check like the police department and the sheriff’s office has.

And regarding the registration, It was the sticker on the tag. The registration was paid, but forgot to change that pesky yellow tag on the license plate. NO ONE expects to get towed because they forgot to put the little sticker on their plate.

Straight scavengers.

Interesting...

It is always very interesting when people start to throw around words like "ethical" and "unjust".  Especially since the reason you got towed is because you FAILED to properly register your vehicle.  I am curious, what would you have done if they told you that your car was on the "tow list"?

Would you have registered your car?  If so why do you need the threat of a tow to do something you are legally supposed to do?

Would you have hid your car to keep it from getting towed?  If that is the case then I refer you back to your claim on ethics.

As for your lease, while I can't speak for your specific lease.  Most apartment leases do include some sort of towing provision for illegally parked cars.  And while you may not realize this a vehicle with expired registration is no longer legal to drive.  And the apartment complex is NOT your property like an actual house would be.
