On 06/29/2004 I deposit check in amount of $1,950.00 to my TCF Personal Checking Account. Regarding on my Online Banking information the check cleared on 06/30/2004.

Full Text:
Description:ATM TCF WAUKEGAN
From Account:New - 2876088XXX
Transaction:ATM Deposit
Date Cleared:06/30/2004
Amount:$1,950.00

Date Initiated:06/29/2004
FI Reference ID:2004##

The same day when I deposit the check, the ATM allowed me to take $500.00 from my Account.

Next day I went to TCF Branch in Waukegan, IL, and I have been told that I need to wait up to five days, for my check to be cleared, because the written check was out
of state.

On 07/02/2004, I was checking my balance on an ATM Machine, but the ATM rejected my card, the next thing what I did I went online http://www.tcfexpress.com , and I was quite shocked when I saw that my account was CLOSED. Without prior notification, phone call or anything like that.

Naturally, I called the TCF, and their Agent could not explain why my account was closed?

For example: If the check what I deposited was not good, that still is not the reason to close my account three days after the deposit?

This is simply not right; I am losing the Money because I cannot deposit anything to my Account. Who gave them the right to close my Account without any reason?

sorry, allowing you to give a competitors name would instigate others to just file against their competition, to only come back later to suggest their company your comments on this policy are welcome! #2 Consumer Suggestion

Could it have been that your account was $500 overdrawn for several days?

AUTHOR: J G Shrugged - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 10, 2008

Just because the transaction showed "cleared" online doesn't mean that the check payment had cleared. Your account was probably closed because it was overdrawn by $500 for a long period of time.

It's not the bank's responsibility to prevent you from withdrawing funds when they aren't available. Granted, most do, but if you don't cover the overdraft timely, that usually flags the account.

Same exact thing happen to me

AUTHOR: D. Jones - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 10, 2008

The have a similar experience. I deposit a check from a client for $180.00 on 6/4/08 through the ATM and at the same time of the transaction I withdrew $100.00. On 6/6/08 I went to the ATM to check my balance, the screen showed "Transaction Incomplete" and the receipt showed "contact financial institution."

I call 1800 TCF-Bank, and put in my account information, but the automated voice kept saying invalid account number. A customer service rep came on the line, and I stated that I couldn't access my account, she stated to me that my account was closed. I was SHOCKED!!

I asked her why my account was closed and she stated "that it was because of a deposit that could not be verified." I was told that the deposit came back NSF, and I would have to go inside the bank to see about getting the account reopened. First, I went home and contacted that person who wrote me the check, she put me on the phone with her bank and someone from her bank stated that the check had already cleared.

The next day 6/7/08 I went inside TCF and talked to a personal banker and explained my situation, she looked up my account and told me the same thing the person told me on th phone, she said my account also showed ATM Fraud and the Loss Prevention closed my account and had put a hold on my account until 6/12/08 for my protection because there was a lot of ATM fraud going on. I explained to her that the check that was deposited was clear and that there must have been some mistake. The personal banker told me she couldn't contact Loss Prevention because it was Saturday and they were closed.

On Monday 6/9/08 I went back to TCF and had a Personal Banker call Loss Prevention and let them no that the deposit had cleared and maybe they could call that bank and verify the the check had cleared. Loss Prevention told the personal banker that they could not call bank to verify if the cleared check and that my account could not even be considered for reopening until 6/13/08 and I could not ever withdraw any of my money until then. Now I am sitting here with no money and all my scheduled withdraws are being returned and my account my not even be reopened. I feel like I am being punished for nothing I did wrong.
