I should start off by saying I'm aware TD Bank doesn't give a s*** about my rip off report. I'm also aware that they don't give a s*** about retaining my business. But the way they have ripped me off leaves me so sick inside I have to vent. In addition to my full time job, I worked 2 part time jobs since October to save enough money to give my kids a nice Christmas this year. I'm a single mom and I don't ever take any welfare or much child support. My kids have been through a lot and I wanted to give them a great Christmas. Well TD Bank just took all the Christmas money I'd worked 60-70 hours a week to earn. They took all the money I'd earned in part time jobs in NSF fees. When I went grocery shopping last night before a big snow storm I still had $600 on my account. I spent $100. My paycheck was deposited just after midnight. Well, TD Bank says checks came in that didn't show up because of the holidays. I said even if the checks showing up was delayed, my paycheck was deposited and would cover them. TD says all these charges came in at 11:30 at night and my paycheck came in a little after midnight, so too bad for me. The customer service people are really heartless. You took all our Christmas money that I worked 3 jobs to earn over some 1/2 hour technicality? And they stack the charges to bring in $35 NSF fee after fee. All they have to say is "the bank didn't make any error", so they just take whatever they want. I know the bank doesn't care, but I'm really sick inside to tell the kids Mom has to work 3 jobs for 3 more months. This bank left me so sick inside. I feel so ripped off. 3 months of work for nothing.

You Learned the Wrong Lesson

AUTHOR: coast - ()

POSTED: Friday, January 03, 2014

“It's MY fault TD Bank stole all my Christmas money.”

You appear to be unable to identify the difference between stealing and penalizing.

“the lesson I learned is why bother working hard to pay your own way”

You learned the wrong lesson. The lesson is: Maintain a check register and don’t spend unavailable funds.

“The funds most certainly were available when I spent them.”

You already admitted the funds were not available when you whined about a ‘1/2 hour technicality.’

“I still had $600 on my account”

Where did you obtain that information? If it was from the online banking service, it did not include outstanding transactions. If it was from an accurate up-to-date check register, then you knew the resulting balance was below zero.

Bulls***

The funds most certainly were available when I spent them.  I watch the account quite carefully.  This bank took almost everything I had.  And people like this jerk think they can shame me into believing I deserved it.  The bank should punish me for all my deficiencies.  Some people, usually white males who run banks, and write rebuttals in defense of banks, and shoot up elementary schools, enjoy a punitive environment.  This doesnt work for the majority of Americans.  Once again, I ask why I should bother working and paying my own way, when a bank can suck up the pay for all my hard work and sacrifice, legally, for nothing but "teaching me a lesson"

Taking My Report Too Personally

AUTHOR: Donna - ()

POSTED: Friday, January 03, 2014

Don't work for the bank?  You seem to have a whole lot of time on your hands to have put so much effort into this response.  I can see why so many people in this country give up on working.  It's MY fault TD Bank stole all my Christmas money.  I do the right thing, earn my own way, and the banks in this country are allowed to steal the money I'd worked so hard to earn because of a half hour tehcnicality.  And they are smug about it too.  So you jerk, the lesson I learned is why bother working hard to pay your own way.  Banks are going to just steal it from me and jerks like this are going to back them up.   I can certainly understand a welfare mentality now.

The only one to blame in this...

AUTHOR: Robert - ()

POSTED: Friday, January 03, 2014

The only person to blame for your situation is YOU.

Well, TD Bank says checks came in that didn't show up because of the holidays.

- Why would it matter if the checks showed up before the holidays, after the holidays or in 2026(okay a bit exagerated but I think you get the point)?  Because if you use a register(which I bet you don't) you would know that those checks are outstanding and NOT attempt to spend the money that you don't actually have available.  It wasn't available because your paycheck was not deposited and available yet.

Sorry but your entire "sob story" can be summed up very easily.  Had you kept a written register and NOT spent more money than you had available you would NOT have overdrafted.

All they have to say is "the bank didn't make any error", so they just take whatever they want.

- That is correct because THEY didn't make the error..YOU did by attempting to "float" your funds and spend money you didn't actually have available.  As for taking what ever they want.  Again, they didn't take what they wanted.  They took the fees out according the terms of the account YOU agreed to when you opened the account.

I feel so ripped off. 3 months of work for nothing.

- Well not nothing.  Hopefully you learned a lesson in responsibility and account management.  Where you will start to use a register to write down EVERY transaction you make and NEVER attempt to spend more than you have currently available.  Oh and yes this could have happened at ANY bank.

Also, before you ask..NO I do not work for this or any other bank, and if you really take a critical look at what I wrote I am actually telling you how to avoid even one fee in the future.  So if you don't know how to use a register, go into a branch and you may be shocked that they will be more than willing to show you and will probably even give you a register to use.

Not the fault of the bank

This is 100% your fault because you spent funds before they were available.
