i had opened a savings account in july to this bank and had told the teller that i wanted it linked to my checking account to cover any overdrafted items and i did not want to have to pay overdraft fees. i had finished opening the account and everything to my knowldge was fine and everything was set up right. i few months later i had a few charges go threw that for reasons slipped my mind and i did not have enough in my checking to cover them but i did have enough in my savings to cover it had the accounts been linked like the should have. i get hit with overdraft fees and i went into the branch thinking it was a simple mistake and they will refund me my money no problem. i find that the savings account was never linked instead he set me up on some kind of over draft payment thing. keep in mind i had the funds to cover the charges in my savings. the assistant manager there made it clear to me since there is no paper signed saying that is what i wanted which at the time i had been giving a paper with my electronic signture on it which i thought that was what it was but it turns out that is not. the assistant manager instead of realizing that his teller made a mistake and correcting it made it clear that this is not his or td banks problem and i will have to pay the overdraft fees. im am shocked that they can do this to there long standing customers it was a simple mistake that the teller when opening the account did not do what he was supposed to and now i have to pay for someone elses mistake.

Not Only That...

AUTHOR: Jim - ()

If you would have been keeping a written record of your debit/check usage, maintained a running balance and checking that running balance to see if you had the money to cover the next usage...then there would have been ZERO OVERDRAFT FEES to begin with.  Instead, you kept using an ATM card and/or writing checks when you had absolutely no knowledge as to your account balance and YOU caused overdraft fees.  Same story all the time!

And....

AUTHOR: Tyg - ()

There in lays the problem. Its your word verses what they have on file. The point is that you say this NOW after you have late fees. See businesses have gotten suavee to how that American consumer attempt to get out of paying for something. They know that the consumer is going to lie and blame anyone else to get out of paying what they owe. So its unfortunate but we have only ourselves to blame for this. AFTER the fact you state the employee screwed up. AFTER you are forced to pay your late fees its someone elses fault. Its you the consumer who has to prove now that the employee screwed up. If you chose to not READ what you signed then ultimatly YOU are at fault. Had you done your part as a consumer and read what you signed then you would have caught this before you ever signed. But you probably did as 99% of Americans do and just signed away. Well in the end its all on you.
