On Monday Sept. 7, 2015 we were in route to Des Moines, IA traveling on I-15 N in our 2005 Itasca 40' diesel pusher motor home. We stopped for fuel in Beaver, UT and while I was fueling an employ of Gober's Service came by on a golf cart and mentioned my left front tire appeared to be low on air and suggested I go around to Gober's lot which was directly west of the fuel pumps so my tires could be checked.
Once I pulled into Gober's lot another employ inspected all tires and told my wife and I that our tires were unsafe to drive on due to tread seperation and tire ages (especially going as far as Des Moines, IA). (Our tires only has 22,650+/- miles on them at this time and looked new). He told us stories of other RVers that had tire failures; treads come loose etc and do thousands of dollars in damages to motor home components and saftey issues;he basically scared us into purchasing 6-new Michelin 275/80R 22.5 for the total sum of $5,454.12. He told us he was giviing us a deal by not charging any labor or for bean bags in each wheel used to balance tires.
I believe we were mis-led and ripped off by Gober's Service and hope something can be done with businesses that take advantage of out of state travelers etc.

Miles are only part of it...

You seem to think that just because your tires only had 22K miles on them they are okay. That is not always correct. This person said your tread was separating. So was it?
Were these original tires(circa 2005?) If so then depending on the conditions they are stored in the rubber could be breaking down, and "looking new" does not mean that they are okay.
You were told one of the tires were low. Was it? Out of curiosity what was the mileage rating on the tires you had replaced? What was the tred depth? Was there uneven wear?
Now, I am not saying that you did or did not get ripped off, as only you and they know the exact situation. However, iust going on the assumption that because your tires had only 22K they were okay may not be a correct line of thinking.
