Everything started one afternoon (Wednesday), when I cam back from work I smelled a foul odor in the living room. Trying to find the source of it, I happened to look up the ceilling and see 4 large water stains.
I call the 24 hour maintenance hotline for an emergency maintenance schedule for the following afternoon (Thursday), which I had to get off work early for. Waited for someone to come, but no one showed up! Had to reschedule for another appointment in the afternoon again for the day after (Friday).
Maintenance comes to my unit while I was at work, and lets me know that ceiling was dry, but didn't know what the odor was. And all he did was repaint the stains. If the smell was still there, then I would have to call for another appointment. I left the patio door open with a fan blowing all night, hoping the smell would dissipate; which it did not.
Next day (Saturday), I call front office and complain, they ask me to call the maintenance hotline because they cannot place service orders. Personnel does not show up until the afternoon, and say they are unable to do any major work so will have to wait until Tuesday. Office manager promises to have someone come by Monday instead.
I come back from work on Monday, nothing was done to the apartment. So I call Tuesday and speak with the sales manager who said he was in the unit on Monday, and couldn't smell anything so we set an appointment for Wednesday to meet him at the unit.
He comes on Wednesday, and says that they will investigate into the cause of the stain, and will have it fixed by Thursday. As I had already taken 2 half days from work, I allowed them to do work in the unit without my presence. They called Thursday and said everything was fixed.
This past Friday, after some major downpour, I come back from work to see that the ceiling is leaking water on my entertainment center. I call maintenance right away, and he comes to check the leak and makes two hole and says he will pick up a dehumidifier for it to run through the night. And they will call a roofer for Saturday, which they did and found the reason why water was getting through the roof. Maintenance guy tells me that they will come Monday to patch up the 2 holes he made, when he came to check on Friday afternoon.
Problem is, the whole ceiling has major water stains, and are "softened" by the water damage which is felt when pressing it. I keep telling them they have to gut the ceiling because this is some major problem, that is not solved simply by repainting.
These past 3 weeks I've been breathing air that is contaminated by mildew, and am coughing, sneezing and having sinus.
I have asked for a new unit, but was told there were no availability.
Under California rental laws, they have breached the lease agreement since the above makes the unit unlivable.
BRE Property management is trying to weasel their way out of major repairs by covering the evidence and telling me that everything is fixed, when it obviously nothing has been repaired after so many visits.
I have been extremely patient with them, and given them enough time to solve the problem. But they are just trying to cut corners. I am done with them.
