After applying at The Academy of Ft. Lauderdale, I began taking classes. Multiple teachers were brought in to teach the courses. The machines we were using to do our labs on were constantly reformatted from the class before us.

I found it hard to learn anything from their classes and was promissed a test pass gaurantee through online test taking. The online tests never worked properly and were eventually taken off line all together.

I only took 2 out of the 8 courses promissed when I applyed for my refund. (8000.00 Total amound of loan, paid in full to John Steele from SallieMae Student loans.) I was told it would take a month to get the refund approved then they would make it retroactive for the classes that I had already taken.

I then waited aprox. 1 1/2 months to follow-up on my refund. At that time I was told that the school had been closed and The Academy of Miami and The Next Step in Ft. Lauderdale were not responsible for the monies owed.

I was then directed to the Florida Commission for Independent Education. They told me that they had filed a class action lawsuit against John Steele and that there was over 200 students who had loans over 10,000.00 pending.

The Commission for Independent Education informed me that they did not know the whereabouts of John Steele and that a Class Action Lawsuit could take years to resolve. Meanwhile, I am making payments against my loan of 8,000.00 dollors at an intrest rate of 6.5%.

SallieMai informed me that they paid the loan out to John Steele in full and could not do anything for me at this point. I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL MONIES OWED!

In my opinion, not only is John Steele repsponsible for wrong doing, but also SallieMai Student Loans. How could they pay out soooo much money to a non reputable school and an even more non reputable man.

This is obviously a case of Fraud and myself along with many other students are now suffering because of the massive amounts of money due. It is not fair and we should not have to pay for services that were never rendered.
