I have never had ANY company like The Moving Company treat me worse than they did.  

We decided to use their services...and called The Moving Company to get a FREE (per their website) estimate.

We went through a list of the items we wanted to move, but not a complete detailed list.  We were ready to sign with them, but knowing it was not the complete list we did not sign the agreement, but in good faith we deposited $1000.00 on March 18. by way of a wire transfer to the company, knowing we could cancel within 5 business days of the move. They tried to hurry us along, saying they had to reserve the truck  At the same time we called ABF Freight to get a quote, and also reserved two PODs for moving at no cost. 

We received an updated 'contract' via email on Wednesday March 19th from Christine Duncan at 7:32pm.  On March 20th I called to cancel. Christine told me she would call me back.  It was Daniel that called so I told him, and that's when he got absolutely belligerent with me.  He told me the money was not refundable, and that he was not going to let us cancel!! I asked him how we can do that?  He told me that he had worked too hard on this deal..  This went on for around 20 minutes, and he just told me that he was going to cancel the whole thing and give no refund, and then hung up on me.  I called him back and told him that I can't afford to lose $1000.00 bucks and maybe we can work something out. I have never, in my life, been spoken to the way that Daniel spoke to me.  He was demeaning and belittling, and I felt they were strong-arming me into working with them, by holding my money ransom. 

At that moment I didn't care if I lost the $1000.00 bucks I did not want to work with these folks EVER.  When he called he gave me a guilt trip about spending all this time (2 hours), and how hard he had worked on this deal.  Daniel was never apologetic and acted like it was ALL my fault.   Daniel also spoke with my wife and tried to make her feel guilty and blame her for getting him the wrong item numbers for moving.  Again, this is why we didn’t sign, we knew it was inaccurate.  Sara, my wife, provided the detailed list on Wednesday Morning March 19th.  We went from 235 items to 378 items.  Sara told him that we were going to file complaints and give bad reviews , and that is when he got hostile with my wife and told her they were going to take legal action against us, because we can’t slander the company? And that is the only thing we can do at this point with them holding our money ransom.  We didn’t trust them even more, we would definitely not trust them to move everything we own. After speaking with Sara, Daniel called me and told me something to the effect that he would see us in court for slander.  I told him it would be a truthful review.  And then he hung up on me.  At this point I’m shaking, and he tries calling me 11 times in a row I ignored them until I see an unfamiliar 801 Utah number come across, so I answered it.  It was a girl named Dana trying to work things out, she connected me with Scott; Daniels supervisor.  The number they called me on was: 801-265-8472.  It turned out to a false.

Back to Scott, (I doubt that was his name) he was friendly at first and then turned in to the belittling demeaning person that Daniel was. Scott told me he held all the cards.  I told Scott who was trying to talk me into resolving this that I didn’t trust the company anymore and I think it’s best if he refund our money.  He told me, he had too much vested and would refund $50 bucks.  I told him why don’t we split the money 50/50 since he had spent time putting the quote together.  Scott wouldn’t hear of it.  At this point I was already 10 minutes late for the closing on my home.  I told him I would call him later, but he had the fake number. I’ve tried calling, but I get put through to their voicemail.  So I had my lawyer write them a letter to relinquish the funds.  And I would also like to let people know through you guys that this is not how you should do business.  Bottom line is we gave them money on good faith, and because we decided to cancel and go with a different company they held our money hostage and tried to strong arm us into using their services.  On the flip side ABF moving was AWESOME!  Friendly and super easy to work with.  If you don't mind packing your own stuff this is the way to go!

They claimed by recording our phone call the verbal agreement for $1500.00 was legit.  But it's not, verbal agreements don't hold above $1000.  They made is almost impossible to get a refund, as you have to send a certified letter 5 BUSINESS days in advance.  We over-nighted our cancelation but that wasn't good enough. 

I filed a complaint with the National Consumer Complaint Database nccdb.fmcsa.dot.gov/ which really pissed them off.  Then they had their attorney write my attorney a letter telling them to retract it.  I would never recommend  anyone work with this company.  Look at the contract and all the fine print, they are covering all their bases.  They are dishonest, hard to work with, and bullies.
