I placed a deposit on the purchase of a log cabin home kit & received a package detailing the services to be provided & the expectations to be met.

After this, there was little to no contact & when I requested information, it was either never supplied or was told "that is not in your package" or "send us this amount of money" with no other information provided.

I believe they are very deceptive in their sales pitch & once they had my deposit of $5,100.00, customer service disappeared. Their package states that I was to receive updates on a regular basis & I never did.

After much frustration, I contacted a different log cabin home builder & am planning on using them instead.

In their response to the BBB complaint, they state that they did much more work than my miniscule deposit would cover.

They also advertise they are a BBB business with a A+ rating, which I have since found to be false.

There were phone calls & emails exchanged, especially when I started complaining about the lack of service & the lack of information available to me.  Your business is not rated with the Better Business Bureau, nor are you a member, as any REPUTABLE company would be. 

As far as the "work" your company did, it was just as a sales pitch.  Once you received My $5,100.00 deposit, which you referred to as "miniscule", that's when your true colors showed. (If the money was such an insignificant amount, why do you insist on keeping what you didn't earn?) "Hungry" competition?  I did not start looking elsewhere until after I had had enough of your "service".

 You feel that $5,100.00 was what your emails & sales pitch was worth?  No wonder so many others can beat your prices.  I wasn't looking for the cheapest, I was looking for the most reputable & got burned by you in the process. I will continue to spread the word, on any media available, unless your company does the RIGHT thing, which I doubt it will.

While it is unfortunate that one of our customers feels less than satisfied about their dealings with our company, Log Cabin Homes and its staff strive to go above and beyond our contractual agreements. We cannot control all variables, nor can we control all transactions from our customers.  
 
Log Cabin Homes does in fact maintain an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau and we do so by honoring our agreements in good faith and responding to complaints in a timely and satisfactory manner. Please see excerpt from Better Business Bureau's website: "Factors that raised Log Cabin Homes Ltd's rating include: Length of time business has been operating. Complaint volume filed with BBB for business of this size. Response to 10 complaint(s) filed against business. Resolution of complaint(s) filed against business. This complaint stated "once they (Log Cabin Homes) had my deposit of $5,100.00, customer service disappeared. This couldn't be further from the truth. The complaint also mentioned that he never received updates on a regular basis as promised in Log Cabin Homes welcome package. The following is a timeline of documented activity contrary to the customers complaint:
 
8/27/13 Customer overnighted signed sales agreement with deposit
8/28/13 Customer's file was transferred from Sales to Customer Service Department
8/30/13 Welcome Package was mailed
8/30/13 Two emails were sent to client
9/3/13 Additional Letter was mailed to client
9/5/13 Spoke to Customer via Telephone
9/6/13 Further info/details were mailed to customer
9/9/13 CAD department completed and posted Preliminary plans online and notified customer of such for review
9/9/13 Customer emailed and we quote "Plans look good"
9/18/13 Customer Called into Customer service and Left Message regarding possible customer requested revisions
9/18/13 Customer Service left a voicemail for Customer
9/24/13 Customer Service invited customer to one of our Construction Workshop & Seminar or Personal Tour at customer’s convenience
9/27/13 CAD department completed customer requested revisions and placed them online for customer Review
10/10/13 Sent the customer requested amendment for revisions to plans
 
… Following these events there were numerous attempts followed by customer’s request for refund.
 
Extensive service and support was provided as documented in hard copies and in our data files.
 
During the process above, the customer brought the details of the purchase and plans to an established competitor who, hungry for business, naturally beat our agreement offering.
 
Almost any established competitor can beat another established competitor's offering after the fact, because in part, the new competitor did not bear the cost of the sales/marketing expense to obtain the sale nor did it bear the cost of the architectural design, engineering and associated costs related to the blueprints (plans) and other services all provided by the original competitor.
 
In so much as the terms and conditions of sale were acknowledged and signed by the customer at the time of the sale; the specific costs incurred for this customers transaction far exceeds the small deposit tendered.
 
We cannot be held liable for deposit money when one of our customers breach the agreement on their end. This is clearly noted in our Sales Agreements and is in no way a deceptive practice.  It does not take long to deplete a small deposit when dealing with architectural based work. These deposits are also used for planning and to aid in procurement of inventory used to fulfill these orders at the time of delivery.
