I asked the manager if the UPS Store's prices were close to the same as USPS. Not only did he say yes, he said that he could check USPS's prices as well and give me the better of the two. My total was almost $30 and I asked him why was the total so high. He stated that it was because of gas prices.
The next day I shipped the same two things USPS and my total was just over $10. I showed them my receipt from UPS Store and they all got a good laugh and confirmed that I got ripped off.
When I called the UPS Store I got the same person on the phone that checked me out the day before. When I asked him why he charged me like he did he tried telling me that he was talking about large boxes. The tow packages I shipped would fit into a bread basket. He lied purposely to make sure that I used the UPS Store knowing full well that he was ripping me off.

I was thinking the same thing. A couple of bucks was no big deal, but I got robbed. The things I shipped cost $.50 for one and $2.00 for the other. When I went into the store I asked for the cheapest option available. When he said $30 bucks I was going to leave, but he insisted on high gas prices driving costs up and led me to belive that regardless of the shipper I used it would be the same. This is where I have the issue. He should have responded by telling me that he was unable to give prices of competitors, instead he lied and even offered to tell me what USPS would charge me. I'm not mad about the price I paid, but about how they lied in order to get me to pay it.

Those locations have a mark up for postal as a convenience fee, but nothing like what you're stating. Obviously, $30 vs $10 is not an apples for apples comparison. Did you ship your items UPS or postal? Since the post office near me closed and consolidated with another one 8 miles away, I don't mind the couple dollar mark up. I'd spend it on gas and wear anyways. If you shipped UPS, then both packages must have been a rural location. Fedex would have been the same.
All shipping businesses that use postal mark up stamps and meter mail, but not like you're indicating. Did you ask for tracking, free insurance, a business signature, gauranteed to get there by a certain day, etc, etc? If not and the stuff you were sending wasn't too important, then you should have insisted on postal service. Evidentally, you didn't need any of the standard shipping features that UPS and FedEx have on all shipments and have to pay extra for at the post office if the service is even available. After using the post office regularly and something is lost (not necessarily the post offices fault!), will you think 'no big deal I'll just forget about it'?
So what service did you ask for? What does it say on your receipt? It would be odd that you received a UPS/Fedex service if you only asked for basic postal. If all you wanted was basic, then pay the convenience fee or just go to the post office next time. When you have a more serious problem with the post office, you can add to the list of complaints in the ROP site too.
