We were house hunting on internet.  I went to zillow and as I was looking at property, I found a house around the corner from where I presently live.  I put in our information as wanting to see the property.  I was called by Rental Home showing agent, Juanita Claiborne 804 712 6941.

On June 1, 2016, we drove to the 1208 Wellington Rd, Colonial Hgts, Va, to view property.  We notice that the house was very much lived in.  A few minutes later Ms. Claiborne arrived.  she stated that she tried to reach us to let us know that the tenants decided not to move.  We really liked what we saw.  We left very dissappointed.

As I continued to look for houses for rent, I continued to see this same house for rent on zillow, Thewrightchoicerealityrichmond.com, and Rent.com, Trulia.com   So I decided to call Ms Claiborne on July18th, 2016 and asked about property at 1208 Wellington Rd, She said the owner decided not to move and that property was for rent.

We were given an appointment for July 22, @ 9:00am.  We were there early.  It turn out to a open house.  We wanted to make application as well as others.  There were at least 5 others seeing property.  We were told that we were the first applicants but we had to hurry to make application on thewightchoicerichmondrealitygroup.  The application fee was 50.00 for each person, husband, wife and any other person over 18 including school age children over 18.

Most 18 year old dont have any kind of credit.

I was having feeling about having to pay 100.00 for application fee for my husband and self.  I fill out application in my husband name since we have joint credit. I paid the 50.00 application fee.  The next day I got a email from David Wright saying that I needed to make another application for myself and a 50.00 application fee before he could process my husband application.

In other words, I was holding up my husband application from being processed.  My husband application receipt was for the 7/20/2016. We didnt see the house until Friday the 22 of July, yet he sent a receipt for July 20, He sent my receipt 7/22/2016.  He sent a email stating that our application was denied.

Being as I have never had a denied rental application before, I called Mr. Wright.  He was very aggrogate in his speech.  I asked him why did he take our both our application fee if he knew he was not going to approve our application.  He had my husband information long enoungh to know that we were not going to be selected. He already had his appl and fee.  Our credit is joint.

He told me that the owner denied our application.  Ms Claiborne was so sure that we were going to get the house, I went out and brought a refrigerator, that I cant take back.  Ms Claiborne called the owner who stated that he had not seen any applications.

I discovered that the people that are living in the house rent was paid up. This man has been taking application fees on this property and advertizing as for rent for a very long time and still is when the house in still in rent status.  This complaint is not just for us but for every person who he has cheated out of 50.00 application fee.  These are hard time for most people.  He should not be allowed to get away with this form of rip off.  The landords are not aware of these extra benefits for him.

We are still looking , I realize that agencies do ask for application fee.  This make it even harder for people to relocate. Moving is already so expensive.  Because Ms Claiborne was trying to find out about all the application that he had deleted from the computer and all the application fees he had collected. She was very concerned about the applicants, as the result of her concern she was told she had no future with that company.  She cared enough about people she was showing the property to knowing they were getting ripped off and still is. House still for rent. application fee 50.00.

House beening advertize newly painted, new carpet ready to move in.  Renters still have possession of house.  my understanding is there is no plan to paint or put in new carpet.

Please help stop this american greed.   No telling how long he has been collecting these application fees.
